See this thread Thread: Live Tokyo Geiger Counter Can anyone translate the Japanese below the video? I'm curious if the broadcaster is listing device specifications. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1081323 United States 03/14/2011 02:54 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Find a website that we can see a map and radiation detection in that area Quoting: MirelurkMeatthe one map that was pinned earlier sucked i thought, but something alot more presentable would be better suited for this thread, as well as everyone keeping in thouch Yeah, the one I just posted? Nothing for Hawaii....that's what I'd like to keep my eye on. |

I don't feel we should trust the authorities to provide us with timely acurrate data on this. The thread would have to be monitored to prevent people from posting bogus readings and trying to cause fear. Posts could be requested to have a link to their source. I really hope that someone can do this, I am concerned that if these reactors keep failing and there is a true meltdown, the levels of fallout might become enough to impact the health of persons in the US. I just posted this^^^ on a couple of the nuclear doom threads. You are awesome. I hope you will weed out the false reports. I ordered a geiger counter on Friday so I will join the reporting when it arrives. Thanks man. JT in Oregon 5 stars :hoorayfireworks: |

As far as false reports, there really is no way to weed them out without 2nd or 3rd party validation. I suppose we could provide a link to a sanitized photo of our calibration cert. if a reading comes under scrutiny. Last Edited by Programmer on 03/14/2011 03:39 AM |

I bring up the false report issue because of past experience. I think the format that you posted with your equipment type, location, reading, weather conditions, etc. will be helpful. Montana is a great place to be in these times. Do you live at 7500, or were you venturing into the mountains? I live in the Willamette valley, a real dust/pollen trap especially in the summer... |

We are in Oregon and are very happy to see a fellow Oregonian who will post readings from your new gear. Got our KI and RAD stickers on the way. Bought the last little bottle of Iodine on the shelf at pharmacy Saturday. Rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it! Look forward to keeping an eye on this thread. |

We need individuals with the tools to report their findings. |

Welcome Canada! Grab a meter and join in? The radiationnetwork is a nice tool, but has many weaknesses. Mainly the lack of participants. GLP Gets 100k or more visitors a day and has google wired for speed. It'd be a real nice data aggregator. I also find suspect the instruments they sell and the certification standards they use. Don't get me wrong, it's made in the USA, in-house it appears. A lot of inspiring and great instruments got started as in-house projects. Maybe I am biased because I like analog meters. Get a meter and join us! We need more nodes. Montana is a great place to be in these times. Do you live at 7500, or were you venturing into the mountains? Quoting: JohntarazI live in the Willamette valley, a real dust/pollen trap especially in the summer... Nope not at 7050, but am 30 mins from the Park entrance with good road conditions, no cops and no deer. :) Willamette Valley... it means the Valley Of Poison in navajo because of the pollen I think. With empirical evidence of findings if they go into alert. Quoting: patmac 1130776 Is that the home-made kit? The last stream I watched was a DIY kit heh. Great thread! Vote for a pin :) Quoting: Girl GeniusHello there. Welcome and thanks, hopefully we can make some sense out of this and see if we really have doom inbound. I recommend EBay, just find a trusted powerseller that is licensed under the state Dept. of Radiological Health (or lateral agency) to maintain, calibrate manufacture and / or certify equipment. I've not done it, but a friend did and got a nice mobile unit for about $500. Came with a check-source and GM probe. Fully calibrated and ready to go to work. Even the civil defense and surplus models work and will save your bacon when calibrated and properly used. |

Programmer (OP) User ID: 1105850 United States 03/14/2011 04:47 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I suggest a PIN dont have any rad meter though Quoting: skirmisherWery good idea OP I agree, Elmer, my friend Thank you everyone for the pin suggest, I haven't even clicked it since we have only one (soon two) stations reporting in periodically. The second will be a station in Idaho Falls, South of me. It will be great to get more people involved. I know we have GLP'ers with meters out there. We could really use some coastal stations, or at least states in the Pacific Northwest to come online. Last Edited by Programmer on 03/14/2011 04:49 AM |
