and the 40 meter band was chosen by me because it is easy to remember, public, and very reliable, i will broadcast and receive near the very middle of that band, to start with..

this is a worst case scenario planning, i don;t own one but i have a way to get one if the shit starts coming to pieces, namely, the internet is cut off..

or a solar flare wipes out the sats, or eqs, etc..

the whole fukushima thing is scary... but i am now and have really always been a full blown nuclear war-tard.

Right now I don't have the fiscal ability... but eventually I'd like to build a secure fallout shelter, fully stocked... with the ability to contact as many people as possible to know what is going on.... i.e. HAM.

Survival is great but without knowing where the rest of the world stands, it's kind of pointless.. who wants to be the "omega man?"

Plus.. I'm sure HAM would be good way to talk to people across the planet as a hobby.

yes it is and always was, always will be. it is very private because of all the possible frequencies and languages, then there's the codes. first step is to get the wikipedia downloaded in case something happens, you'll have it.

then tell your buddies the handle you will use and which frequency to look for you on..

like i said, it's a lot of info, but the basics are a reciever, transmitter, mic, speaker, power generation, etc. it will be here long after the internet is gone..
