A rational question.......
I was born and raised in a VERY strict church environment.....I "rebelled and went crazy" I wanted as far away from "church/God" as I could possibly get! NOW YEARS later, I find myself turning to God for answers and help.....About a year and a half ago, I started studying the Bible for myself, I found things I had never been taught before and the more research/digging I do, I have so many questions that I am having trouble finding answers. I DO believe the Bible is the absolute road map, however, there are other areas that are "gray".......I think the smallest terms that have been lost in translation, have made a BIG impact on the "Christian" world. Now, before I continue, let me say......I don't profess to be a Christian, I believe that I am saved from the wrath that I believe will one day come, whether in my lifetime or in another lifetime, and I believe that Jesus Christ is the only way to Heaven.........HOWEVER, I haven't gotten quite that far in my "translations" LOL At any rate, I welcome any and all point of views to this thread....this isn't about an argument, who's wrong and who's right, but this is a thread for me.....I need to know places to look, paths to seek to further heighten my spiritual side......

Here is something that really, really interested me......In the book of Genesis...1:28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. UMMMM, look that word "replenish" up......and how about Elohim which is plural......and why is it that "Christians" are expected to obey the 10 commandments, but within the same chapter of the commandments, there are other "rules" that Christians say do not apply to them now?

I don't want you to come on here and say BS, and blah, and whatever, BUT I really am truly asking some questions here.....door

It does scare me because I don't want to blaspheme in ANY WAY shape or form! I want the truth and I don't understand why it is so hard to get!

Because most of Christians want to stay pagan further which is wrong:

Numbers 15:29 You shall have one law ... for him who is native among the sons of Israel and for the alien who sojourns among them.

Re: A rational question.......
That is awesome OP, I had a similar experience as well!

God said 'replenish' the earth because contrary to popular belief the earth existed prior to what is said in Gen.1:1. It was just empty and void. Going back to the Hebrew there is so much more being said in those verses than what is usually taught!

elohim is sometimes plural and usually means God and His children or angels. In this case in Gen 1, He is talking to the angels.

the 10 commandments is highly debatable so that is up to you to decide. Jesus Christ said He is not come to destroy the law but to fulfill it and He said He is not changing one dot of the law. However the concept of the Law requires much research.

I encourage you to get a strong's concordance to help take each word of the Bible back to the hebrew or greek, this is extremely important. Also, you can use blueletterbible.com.

God bless your search for Truth! Trust no one but your own relationship with Christ. Knock and He will answer!

I've always been a deeply spiritual/religious/whatever person and never felt drawn to their physical churches. It seemed intellectually under-stimulating even as a five year old.

But it isn't the church. You're bumping up against the nature of poorly constructed institutions. The true church, the Kingdom of Heaven, is within you.

I answer all posts this kind in this way :
why would an omnipotent , omniscient god of love find himself to be apparently so dependent on the sevices of messiahs and prophets in order to reveal himself to his peple ... and then keep his mouth shut for two thousand years?
This is not a frivolous question and I have to say that no poster has ever managed to give an intelligent reply to it. What about you?

It's the implementation of faith, you know believing something exists without using your 5 fleshly, mortal, earthly senses.

He is All-mighty and super natural and you think us measly humans can comprehend what He has to say? So, what if He chooses to select a few of His servants, prophets, scribes to deliver His message to the human race.

There is something called the Massorah ( [link to levendwater.org] it's His way of sending us a message. The scribes used it so that none of the words would be changed. It's what the Bible is, Jesus Christ says He came in the volume of the Book.

The very last verse of the Bible threatens any one who dare changes His words. Anything that you find confusing about God's Word, the Bible, is because of Satan's influence. Babylon MEANS confusion.

Satan wants us to be confused about the Truth!

Christ says the Truth will set us free!

Christians have had to face and realize their own sins, and feel compelled to try and help others as well.

This chant of Holier than thou is wrong and is taught by others making you think what is cool or acceptable to them.

The thought of "believe as i do" is strongly in an unbelievers life, because they feel they will be ridiculed by their friends.

Every falsehood a unbeliver weilds, is merely a reflection of the obstacles that unbeliever must face from his very own peers.

Unbelievers are the true followers, they are dedicated to fear of what other people think of them.

And because of this, they are ashamed of themselves, but wall themselves up to feel comfortable and safe, assuring themselves with rationality and laughter.

Which is insanity!

for one thing, no one can look upon God, else they will surely die. sin has separated man and God. moses was told he could see and other part of his body but never his face, else he would certainly die.

the tribe of israel after leaving egypt pleaded for moses to talk to them and not God, apparently the flock was fearful enough after hearing him to not want a direct link to the creator.

so apparently, the need for prophets was a must for God to get his message to the people till the messiah came.

If you think the Bible is the word of God and that Satan is real and that Satan's job is to corrupt the word of God then surely you'd realize that the Bible would have been the first book corrupted? That when it was written most people were illiterate and depended on translations from priests? That it would have been *so* easy to do that? We have priests today who rape little boys, please don't think that back then some in power could not have been corrupt enough to change the doctrine that so many follow. Not to mention that a group of Roman men decided what would go in the Bible (and what would not!).

Read the Bible, there is truth there. But there are also lies and deceit. Discern within and seek many sources.

That's why people should know about the Massorah (see my link above). People should also be careful of what's considered canon or not. Read the books and decide for yourself. Take the time to study and research especially ancient Hebrew and koine greek.

so, you have little or no faith and alot of doubt. your roots are showing! so, you expect me to believe that the prophets of old didnt make sure Gods words stayed intact? that the scribes didnt do their jobs without a prophet getting into his bussiness on behalf of God?

do you expect me to believe that the same God who persuaded pharoah couldnt persuade a congregation of men as to which books to include into the bible?

do you honestly expect me to believe he was powerless in that decision?

the bible is more than sufficient.

Jesus read the scriptures, think he wouldnt have made corrections? no he didnt, he considered them as actual history.

and now i know why Jesus wondered if he would find faith

I DO believe the Bible is the absolute road mapans"

and here is your problem: you use a book made by goat shepherds as an absolute guide...that's why you fail so hard.

Re: A rational question.......
 Quoting: cossack47 1301493

for one thing, no one can look upon God, else they will surely die. sin has separated man and God. moses was told he could see and other part of his body but never his face, else he would certainly die.

the tribe of israel after leaving egypt pleaded for moses to talk to them and not God, apparently the flock was fearful enough after hearing him to not want a direct link to the creator.

so apparently, the need for prophets was a must for God to get his message to the people till the messiah came.

God is very stern on the free will thing. he wants people to come to him cause they believe and have faith. not because of parlor tricks.

Please address yourself to the question and it`s issues or simply hold your piece.

i thought i understood the question, or maybe you cant understand the answer. if so, then you are lost indeed.

im tired of jumping through hoops for y'all anyways. good luck on your impossible quest

But," he said, "you cannot see my face, for no one may see me and live." Exodus 33:20

If only there were someone to arbitrate between us, to lay his hand upon us both, someone to remove God's rod from me, so that his terror would frighten me no more. Job 9:34

At that time I stood between the LORD and you to declare to you the word of the LORD, because you were afraid of the fire ... Deuteronomy 5:5

I led them with cords of human kindness ... Hosea 11:4

Re: A rational question.......
..

 Quoting: iwantunbeso

replenish is only in the King James i think.... and it is a mistranslation ....

it should be fill the earth ..

Re: A rational question.......
and how about Elohim which is plural......and why is it that "Christians" are expected to obey the 10 commandments, but within the same chapter of the commandments, there are other "rules" that Christians say do not apply to them now?

 Quoting: iwantunbeso

Christians today (i am one) are brainwashed sheeple!

they believe the law was abolished and Jesus brought some new religion .... but He didn't

Grace was here from the beginning ...Noah was saved by grace and many others form the OT

The rules are the same ... the only rule abolished was the sacrifical laws ... the offering ...Yahshua was the last sin offering!

but Yahweh's law is eternal

Re: A rational question.......
The bible has been translated so many times it has really lost a lot of its true meaning.
God was changed from gods.
King was changed from kings
Lord was lords.

So there is NOT one way, there are many ways.
And many of these ways predate the bible/christianity.
