I was freaking yesterday because I miscalculated each CPM x .001 and got 200+ cpm and thought that was a pending problem. But since I reread it's 100 cpm = .001 mSv, I'm calm now. FYI, NC State University in Raleigh houses a 1-megawatt nuclear reactor for research; I wonder if the epa radnet detector is at the same location. YCM |

I was 5 years old in '61. I don't think 'most' people looked anything up anywhere. That was then and this is now. The internet is the greatest informational tool in the history of the world but 'most' only use it for porn. So what is your point? I was 8 years old and remember many people hitting the Public Library I went to nearly every day, looking at the literature on radiation and talking about it alot. Remember those? Public Libraries? My point? People sort information, found it, and made the decision to not worry themselves to death over it, or go spend the next 56 years (upto 2017 A.D. -- they'd still be down in those holes in the ground, btw) in their fall out shelters, just to avoid some radiation... they had a better understanding in many ways that these current sets of 'generations'. And my point is also that the US Government did put forth the warning... and people didn't quite ignored it... But yes, that was a different more "responsible" government in a way, yet, it did not warn the people about all the fallout from the NTS atomic bomb blasts that fall out spreading all the way across the USA in various level..including some Stronium 90 dosing. It was convient to warn about the Soviet Tsar Bomb's Stronium 90 but not the American bombs' Stronium 90 fallout burden -- it being the Cold War and all. Some just wrote the whole damn thing off as so much Cold War Propaganda B.S. I highly doubt that at the age of 8 you were in the public library, of which I have been a member since I was in school, researching radiation and it's effects, of which long-term and short-term, were as yet, untested and understood by few. |

Are you trying to tell me that at a high enough dose, it won't go straight through you body, go through walls and ceilings, get into the food supply, contaminate the soil . How bout you tell me where I'm wrong. Because in the process of "informing myself" that is what I found out.
