Time to entomb this fucking thing with concrete. It's too late when the rods get hotter than 2200'F. They will get up too 5000' soon. Then we got ourselves a deep burning hole a half mile deep that can't be stopped because at 5000'F the radiation could kill instantly at the site. Who could get close to it then? Adding water to that high temp will create pure hydrogen into a gas in the area them kaboom. No wonder the media is down playing this. It's real doom.

I was following twitter updates on Japan for most of the week following March.11 they have really died off in the last 24-48 hours. Specifically after black smoke was seen billowing out with a lone fire engine dousing the land with what is most likely contaminated water....

PAY VERY CLOSE ATTENTION to where they speak of how no one was informed of the dangerous levels of radiation for nearly weeks. Never mind how long it took for evacuation to take place.

Because radiation is invisible and the media only likes to show pictures, thus the endless videos of explosions in Libya and nothing on Japan.

It would be miraculous if the pipes in those builds are still serviceable. First they need an army of plumbers in radiological suits, flood lights in those buildings. Then the electrical team would have to inspect the area for damage to avoid any spark to avert hydrogen explosion, then the power can be fully connected to the pumps. No info on any of that work. Just B.S. progress reports. In the meantime stateside got dumb fucks telling us radiation is good for us.

We could have millions and millions of people die from some unknown shit and the media would still tell us to go back to work and relax. Or society is doomed.

Actually, last Wednesday or so I did the computation for the reactor cores: if you wanted to cool the remaining heat they're giving off (11 MW) by water evaporation, you'd have had to pump in 300 l/min (around 80 gallons/min), less than half what even a small fire pump can do. It should be slightly less now.

I don't know about the spent fuel pool, but from the maginitude, if they can get the water into the pool, it's possible this would suffice to keep up the water level. Of course, with the fuel rods even in that pool likely damaged, the steam is radioactive, but at least the heavier isotopes (plutonium / uranium ) are staying there and are not blowing into the air.

No, it's not that. Just my friends and family are trying to live their lives day by day, trying to stay afloat, so Japan is the least of their worries when there's a mortgage to pay and mouths to feed.
