UPDATE: From an engineer I have known since 1st grade and works at the plant that built the zircalloy rods!

He's a materials engineer and manager on the production floor. This is not inside info, he just analyzed the latest developments a couple hours ago and said the catastrophic possibilities considered a week ago are no longer likely. Are you an engineer? What kind?

Second, the information he's "analyzing" is the same shit that is coming from TEPCO and the Japanese government. As we determined well over a week ago, this is tainted and pure bullshit. Therefore, it doesn't matter how accurate his assessment might be, it's based on faulty data.

It's reckless to provide Joe Blow's opinion as having some sort of expertise in the field. And given his livelihood is dependent on the nuclear industry continuing, I would say he has a major conflict of interest.

I am the biologist and he is the engineer so he doesn't get concerned about shit like Iodine being 100x the limit. I, on the other hand tend to have some trepidation about it. I thought the aromatic hydrocarbons from the gulf spill were about as bad as it could get, but yeah I 131 or cesium is much worse. We've unleashed a "Who's who" list of the most carcinogenic substances known. In my undergrad studying organic chemistry and phsyics, I am of the camp that any exposure to these elements is to be avoided at all costs.
