What type of "engineer" is your friend? There are many types, and just because he works in some industry supplying materials to nuke plants doesn't mean shit. He could be selling the paper or office furniture. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 969156Second, what "expertise" does he have in this area? Third, I have serious doubts he has any inside information given your revelation that he's talking to you from AIM. His technological know-how seems to be lacking. He's a materials engineer and manager on the production floor. This is not inside info, he just analyzed the latest developments a couple hours ago and said the catastrophic possibilities considered a week ago are no longer likely. Are you an engineer? What kind? I'm not here saying everything is fine, so my background isn't up for scrutiny. Your headline is misleading. It implies he's an engineer with specialized information on the topic. It's no different than me posting something from my architect friend because they are an engineer. Second, the information he's "analyzing" is the same shit that is coming from TEPCO and the Japanese government. As we determined well over a week ago, this is tainted and pure bullshit. Therefore, it doesn't matter how accurate his assessment might be, it's based on faulty data. It's reckless to provide Joe Blow's opinion as having some sort of expertise in the field. And given his livelihood is dependent on the nuclear industry continuing, I would say he has a major conflict of interest. |

He actually built a critical part in the reactor, so I am more than willing to take his opinion over yours, or anyone on the MSM. Now your point of faulty data giving inaccurate conclusions is 100% correct. I am just pretty comfortable if it was all fabricated he could spot it easily. We'll see |

"Looks like things are calming down and getting under control from what I can tell. Bad situation still of course but not completely out of control per say. " Quoting: Schiff4Senateon mentioning of the ocean samples reported from zero hedge, and how imo they "likely" had to be taken a relatively safe distance from plant "I wouldn't ASSUME anything from any reports with all those idiots out there. Those seawater samples could have easily been taken from 100 yards from the plant. " on showing him the latest thermal imaging "Your thermal image almost confirms that shit is under control. One reactor is holding mid 60's. With what looks like a very small hotspot ina spent fuel pool to 128C. That is nowhere near hot enough to do a damn thing. Water boils at 100C so 128 in a "pool" of "cooling water" is bad for sure. Just saying that it would take near 2000C before shit starts to melt/off gas, and that's for the Zr. Uranium would be higher. " " Sure the clean/aftermath of this will suck. But it has passed the point of out of control periless meltdown imo. No way you'll have 6 open cores ablaze at this point. If/when they get that damn electrical line to the plant it should get even better. " "2 and 3 were the worst of the bunch. And both of those are "stable" now in the mid 60's celsius. Spent fuel pond in #4 is the one showing 128C I believe. All rest of the cores are "fine". " Ok there it is. I called bullshit a few times but he says we passed the critical point and full blown meltdown is highly unlikely. Upon concluding our AIM chat I asked if it's possible the molten reactor could make contact with the ocean water, he left me with this ominous quote.... "If molten reactor stuff hit the ocean it would be a problem ya." You DON'T get smoke like what was coming from #3 from temperatures less than 200C. This a complete load of crap. "Everybody lies." |

HOLY SHIT!!!! REALLY??!!!! Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1165339it's going to be ok afterall?? awesome!!! good to know you can crack these fuckers wide open, blow them up, exposure the spent fuel, dose them in salt water, wait two weeks, cluster-fuck any repair/solution and they just heal themselves. that's pretty fucking cool. you and your BFF rock for breaking it down for us dumbasses that thought exposed radiation and exploded reactors were bad news. I think I love you. Are you male? On the west coast? lol Where's my hero-poster <3 I have spring fever. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1176286No, you are actually the fucking shill. I am the biologist and he is the engineer so he doesn't get concerned about shit like Iodine being 100x the limit. I, on the other hand tend to have some trepidation about it. I thought the aromatic hydrocarbons from the gulf spill were about as bad as it could get, but yeah I 131 or cesium is much worse. We've unleashed a "Who's who" list of the most carcinogenic substances known. In my undergrad studying organic chemistry and phsyics, I am of the camp that any exposure to these elements is to be avoided at all costs. Well I am an expert too and I am of the camp this is wait... wait for it...... |

Pffft he talks just like I do when I get on a roll. Being pissed off and sarcastic and interested in the truth doesn't make a person either illiterate or a troll. In fact I thought he expressed himself freely and with gusto, not illiterately at all. |
