you're welcome! Bhopal, yes! That old Union Carbide...

Rubbertown is a neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky located along the Ohio River. During World War II it became the home of many industrial plants which remained after the war and lead to its name. Its largest businesses include American Synthetic Rubber, Borden Chemical, DuPont Dow Elastomers, Noveon, Rohm and Haas, & Zeon Chemicals. Rubbertown is host to 11 large chemical plants, the largest source of industrial emissions in the Jefferson County area. The Rubbertown area accounts for 42% of air emissions in Jefferson County. [1]

Since the area is a potential health issue to residents, in recent years it has come under attack by various organizations in the community.

Emergency crews remain on the scene of an explosion and fire at the Carbide Industries plant in Louisville's Rubbertown area. Crews were called to the plant at 4400 Bells Lane. around 5:40 p.m. The initial report to MetroSafe was of an explosion. Once on the scene, fire commanders declared the incident a Level 2 HazMat, one step down from the most serious hazardous material incident level. ... From the scene, WAVE 3 Jon Chrisos says there is no danger to people in neighborhoods around the plant. Authorities say an earlier report of a hazardous materials warning for persons living in the area was sent in error and there is no need for people in the affected area to stay indoors."

Yeah right, "sent in error" like they make mistakes like that. "OOPS< just kidding folks..." NOT!

The police sent the info out initially and the paper pusher from Bureau of Emergency Management later said no, no, all is OK. At least this news outlet had the guts to post both and compare the info--

LATEST

Three workers were injured in an explosion and fire Monday at the Carbide Industries plant in Rubbertown. Residents within a mile of the plant at 4400 Bells Lane were initially told to stay indoors. But director Doug Hamilton of city’s Emergency Management Agency said that warning turned out to be unnecessary. “There is no risk to the community right now, and hasn’t been,” he said.

Total over-reaction to a whole bunch of nothing. Never was any danger to the community. Eboni Cochran and the REACT people blow everything out of proportion.
