Read the Bible. God blesses those who provide for themselves. God hates laziness. The Bible says the hand of the dilegent will rule and the lazy will be put into forced labor. The Bible also says a man who doesnt work, shouldnt eat. The Bible also says a man who refuses to provide for his own family is worse than an infidel.
 Quoting: Storm 1245960

Jesus says the rich will surely never enter Heaven, have fun in hell with your worthless fiat currency that you can't take with you anyway. Their is a difference between lazyness and self respect. Somehow I don't think you have any self respect because of the drivel you write without having been there.

Im not rich at all...Im simply a middle class business owner. If I was rich, I wouldnt be working so hard to provide my family a great living.

Yes that might be true however how many people lives have you destroyed by firing people for bullshit reasons? Self righteousness you don't seem to be lacking in.
 Quoting: Mr. D

I assure you, I have never fired anyone for bullshit reasons. The few people I have fired were always fired for great a great reason. The reason: "I dont want them working for me anymore"

Wow! Business people sure are evil.I bet their employees don't look human to them, I bet they look like a Dollar sign or even better! like wads of money.

I have friends who graduated back in 2008 when the economy looked extremely...horrible. My friends took out loans to get their degree something that they dreamed about since before I can remember. Even with their Bachelors of Science (YES SCIENCE!!) and outstanding GPA's no one hired them, they defaulted on their student loans. They didn't default by choice! they were forced to.

I am pretty sure many of these "successful" people in these thread either a) graduated back where there wasn't a economic meltdown or b) Had mommy and daddy pay for their college.

I feel horrible that my friends are categorized as irresponsible, when I saw them work 2 jobs and attending college full time. They are some of the most responsible people I have met. Their work ethic is outstanding, but no employee would bother hire them because they're not interested in the type of people they are they care about 3 pesky little number that says nothing about them.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1282377

If business owners weren't making money they wouldn't be able to employ people. So it is about the money. Without it nothing happens.

And why can't your friends with a science degrees teach? They can substitute teach and get to know the teachers and principals in different schools. A full time job could then be offered to them if they are liked and do a good job. Happens many times.

I read the first page and wanted to comment. I am a loser who quit paying my credit card bills 2 years ago. Being sued by one and surprising nothing happening on the other end. Now the way I see it, is a buisness decision. Downsizing if you will, or restructoring. So many big words from MSNBC. The banks get 7 trillion at o percent to loan back to the government. The whole system is dependent on a pimp and a bitch. I am tired of being the bitch so f them come and get me. And all you Human Resouce bitches, because thats what you are, f you.

Re: Catch 22 in the job market. Bad credit no job, no job can't payoff bad credit!
You don't really want a job, jobs suck donkey balls. You just want INCOME. Fortunately there are other, and dare I say, BETTER ways of making money besides selling your time as an employee. Making money independently without a boss or a job is the most liberating thing I've ever done.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1208743

Technically, you're right. I'd much rather be self-employed again. Or better yet, make money selling data. That's the smartest business possible. No inventory, low overhead, repeat-customers, no employees, etc.

I'm reading a book that tells you how to make money selling e-books - although it's one of those free books that is really more of an advertisement for some system that's being pitched.
 Quoting: gnostic

That is another thing I got in trouble for....Data mining on the net. You would be surprised how scared and angry corporations get if you dig up skeletons in their closets and sell that information to other corporations. I never sold or gave information I found however I think they were monitoring my network and knew I could if i wanted too. Another reason why I think I'm black listed.

Re: Catch 22 in the job market. Bad credit no job, no job can't payoff bad credit!
I can tell you exactly why you havent been hired. Your attitude and your ability to sell yourself to the employer.
Thats what an interview is. You are selling yourself. You have to be able to convince the one doing the hiring that you are worth hiring. You have a "defeatist, im a victim" attitude. If you dont think that comes across in an interview, you are sadly mistaken.
All jobs are sales and all jobs require sales skills. Either you are selling a product, selling a service or selling yourself (your marketable skills) If you dont know how to sell, you will always have a hard time finding a job.

Your defeatist attitude keeps you from closing the sale.
 Quoting: storm 1245960

You got part of it right, but not the part you think.

I'm not good at selling myself. That's why my resume sucks. I'm not a braggart. It goes against my nature to talk about how awesome I am. And apparently there's a fine line that if you cross it, then you're just arrogant and conceited.

The part you got wrong is that I am not a defeatist, and I definitely do not have a victim attitude, and therefore it can't come across in an interview.

I actually can't stand people who have a victim attitude.

There's a difference between being aware of reality vs constructing a reality.

If a car drives by me and splashes me, then someone asks me why I'm all wet - telling them the facts does not make me a victim.

If a person says there's no point in walking down the street because they're just going to get splashed, they are a defeatist.

The person who says no matter what they do, they always get splashed and nothing can be done about it, and woe is them - that is a victim.

It's a fact that some people are assholes. (You know this better than most.) It's a fact that people over 40 have a more difficult time in the job market. It's a fact that recruiters feel safer hiring a 22 yr old with an A+ certificate than they do a 45 yr old with 12+ years experience in small business, corporate environments and field service work.

I recognize these facts. I know they make my endeavors more challenging. But I do what I can to mitigate them. I don't give up, and I don't apply for jobs with the thought that I'm not going to get the job. In fact, if anything, I have too positive of an attitude and I always think, "I got this one!" Then I never hear back and I don't know why, so I review, I analyze and try to make changes.

I do make mistakes in my interviews however. I just learned one of them a few days ago. I thoroughly research a company once I'm scheduled for an interview. During the interview, I ask all kinds of questions. Then at the end, the interviewer asks, "Do you have any questions for us? (As if I hadn't asked a ton throughout the process) and I say I don't. We covered everything.

I read that interviewers are trained to do a procedure, and the last step is to ask if you have questions. If you don't, they conclude that means you are not really interested in the position; you are not really engaged in the interview and you're not interested in knowing anything about the company.

Once again - people with their dim-witted fixed ideas, following a pattern mindlessly because THEY aren't engaged in the process enough to recognize when the final step has already been accomplished, but that would require some intelligence - not just going thru the fucking motions.

So, not being a defeatist or a victim, I'm prepared for this now. I will reserve some of my questions for after all is said and done, so the dumbfuck interviewing me will get a mental green light instead of a moronic red flag because things didn't go the way they were told they're supposed to.

You've been arguing on this message board for the last 2 hours. Seriously, you aren't trying hard enough if you've got this much free time on your hands.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1294813

I guess you're right. I could spend every one of the sixteen or so hours that I'm awake applying for jobs.

But since you've never been in this position, you wouldn't know that the jobs you applied for this morning are the same ones that are available tonight.

I check multiple agencies, job boards and craigslist morning, day and night. And I look for new agencies to register with. And I read advice articles on how to improve interview techniques, how to improve your resume, etc. And I spend time studying for certifications that some day I'll be able to afford the testing for.

My advice, quit spending time on job boards and want ads. You are competing with 1000s of people just like you. Just pick companies you want to work for and forward your resume to one of their VPs or other higher ups with a good professional cover letter.
Learn to business network. One of the best tools to always have a job is having a full business network. Start meet ing people, ask for a business card. It matters who you know in business. A church is a good place to network too. I assure you, if anyone in my church needed a job, someone from the church would hire them. Young kids...if you are about to go to college, JOIN A FRAT. A good frat almost guarantees you a good job for life. A frat brother will ALWAYS hire you.
Learn to play golf. Sounds funny, huh? But golf is a BUSINESS SPORT. The job creators play golf. If you show up on the golf course on a busy saturday by yourself, you will most likely be paired up with someone you dont know. That person might be the CEO of the huge corporation down the street.
This is thinking outside the box.

To teach (High school level not even College level) you need more studying to do which they can't really do since no one would loan them the money. Even to teach high school. You either need a) a teaching certificate or b) a master's degree in the field of their choosing (history, mathematics, English, etc.) It's even harder now to get into teaching actually I got really lucky and was hired right away after subbing for a whole year(being bilingual helps a bit) I know a couple of co-workers who were laid off because of budget cuts..etc.

I appreciate your input, but in practical terms, how does one just GO GET IT?

Online apps and resume sending is how people apply for jobs these days. At least in the I.T. field. If you walk into a building where they're hiring, they'll tell you to leave and go apply online. I've seen it happen twice in the last few weeks while I was at offices waiting for an interview.

I guess I can get a newspaper tomorrow and look for jobs that might not be on the internet and where you apply in person. It can't hurt to try. But if you have any other ideas, I'm all ears.

How is that a bullshit reason? My business, my decision. If I dont want them working for me anymore, I obviously have a good reason. My statement is spot on and covers it all.
I can make it more clear for you. The reason ANYONE ever gets fired is because they are no longer needed to make ME MONEY. Perhaps their work ethic is keeping me from making more money. Perhaps they are costing me money. Perhaps they smell so bad, they are affecting other peoples work, and therefore costing me money (yes, that really happened)

If you didnt want someone in your house, would you ask them to leave? of course you would. How is that different than my business?

Woe is me? I don't think so. I'm not a victim, and I don't want your sympathy.

I merely answered the question of why was I on here posting instead of applying for jobs.

The simple answer is, I apply for jobs all the time. I also take a break once in a while.

And how is you think that applying for jobs, looking for new places to apply for jobs and learning how to improve my resume and interview skills and adding to my marketable skill-set are all things that are going to keep me unemployed?

What's the alternative? Get on food stamps and wait for someone to come to my door asking me if I'm interested in working cuz they have a job for me?

Without writing a diatribe, work on building and expanding your network. In the real world, people don't always get hired strictly on how productive they are, or how intelligent they are, or even how good of a job they'll do. People get hired all the time because of who they know.

You're in IT? There's a million places to network with IT people. You don't have to look that hard. Get out there and talk to people. As was said earlier, you need to be a salesman. You need to sell yourself. If I were you, I'd think of who you know and worked well with over the past 10 or 20 years and try to make a connection through them. Even if they don't know anyone personally, they may have a colleague or friend who does.

A business professor once told me something that couldnt be more true. He said "ALL BUSINESSES ARE ALWAYS HIRING, YOU JUST HAVE TO BE ABLE TO CONVINCE THEM THAT YOU ARE WORTH HIRING.

No, actually you're the problem. The solution in this example is joining a frat and making friends. From the frat brothers perspective, there is no problem whatsoever.

Expand your horizons.

Expand my horizons? Umm excuse me but this country is going down the tubes because of people like you who would hire unqualified unskilled frat brothers instead of qualified skilled labor. Why do you think other countries are leaving us in the dust in just about every sector? You definitely need to open your eyes and look at the bigger picture! Corporations that don't make it get bailed out by taxpayers and continue to lose.....and then blame it on everyone else. Methinks you are the one who needs to expand your horizons.

Any employer who refuses to hire based purely upon bad credit is causing serious economic damage to the economy and causing people who are owed debts to be unpaid.
They are worse than someone with bad credit, worse than a criminal, they are systematically through their own demented mental issues.
Causing pain and suffering to all of their community and even eventually themselves, although they can not see this.
They are the lowest of the low scumbags.

Protip: Mindlessly emailing copies of your resume probably isn't going to get you very many calls.

Be creative for fucks sake. Think outside the box. You and everyone else is just sending your resume and hoping your phone rings. If you want it, GO GET IT.

That's another thing I learned way late in the game. A friend of mine said that he was certain with my intelligence and writing ability, I'd have no trouble at all standing out above all the other applicants with my cover letter.

I replied, "Cover letter?"

There is a problem with IT jobs. Technology. The more advanced technology gets the easier IT shit becomes. Its becoming a low skilled job. Take network engineers for example. Remember 15 or so years ago when a network engineer was a 100K plus job. Thats because it was a skill. Nowadays with technology, any 18 year old kid can run a computer network for 8 bucks an hour. Hell, my "IT guy" at my office is a 20 year old uneducated kid, I pay him 10 bucks an hour, part time. Sometimes i think Im paying him too much.

Incorrect. The "IT guy" at your office is not a network engineer, he's a glorified monkey that your company may call an engineer, but that has no basis in reality. People running global infrastructure are not uneducated, and they still make over 100k a year with very little effort.

You show me a large organization who runs IT on a bunch o $8/hr monkeys, and I'll show you a company with some major, major problems.

Small business, though? Yeah, nothing to it.

Nobody owes anybody a job. That being said, who the hell would want one anyway, when you could be making your own money on your own? No need for resumes, interviews, or learning to play golf. You can make money even when you're sleeping, but not at a job.

Nope...I call him a part time computer guy. Im just saying that 15 years ago, I would have had to pay someone much more for the same job. And sorry, It pay has been going down at major corporations big time too. Hell, I remember when corporations paid their computer help desk people 50K a year, because those people had to know computers. Today the IT help desk is a non skilled job. Requirements, the ability to read and work a keyboard.

Keep thinking that IT is a good field to work in. And watch pay keep going down. Your choice. Hell, I just spent 2 weeks talking my 17 year old son out of wanting to go to college for IT shit. I see it as a path to failure right now.

You're right. It's getting harder and harder. In the past, I'd been hired as an I.T. Manager with no education - just my experience and knowledge.

I'd love to get into a different field, but guess what happens then - I have no experience with anything but I.T.

So I'll see what I can think of based on what you and AC-813 have been saying about networking. Unfortunately, the last few jobs I've had were in different states, so contacts from previous states won't be of much help, but I'll start small and see where it goes from there.
