Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1081323I do not see mention of it in this article you are linking to. Hellllooooo??? Here's a source: January 27, 2010 " In April 1986 there was a massive meltdown at Chernobyl caused mainly by mismanagement of test procedures which resulted in around 100,000 dying slowly by contracting thyroid cancer. It caused yellow rain to fall in the following days and “birth defects remain high across Belarus, which took the brunt of the fallout, and Ukraine” " [link to scienceray.com] . I'll cry if it's bad on my exam day. I wish universities would take kafunsho into consideration. Today, on the 20th anniversary of the incident, the Russian languages and literatures student can look back to the explosion and accept a childhood surrounded by radioactive contamination. “We all jumped in the puddles with the yellow stuff. ... You don’t see (it in) the air, it doesn’t materialize. But when you see the yellow dust, you see radiation,” Sergieff said. All I am saying is that this is the pollen season in Japan and it is much worse there then most other places. That is why everyone you see on TV are wearing those little masks, they do every year. The yellow pollen is everywhere, gets on everything and in large amounts. This is just the simple truth and people who have been to Japan in Mar/Apr know this. It does not agree or disagree with any radiation that is effecting Japan. To be fair the reports were not of yellow rain but of residue. [link to www.japantoday.com] The agency received more than 200 inquiries Thursday morning about yellowish residue left on roofs and elsewhere by the rain, stirring concerns that radioactive substances had fallen after accidents caused by the March 11 quake and tsunami at a nuclear power plant around 220 kilometers northeast of Tokyo. Quoting: omniscientfool[link to www.google.com] Yellow pollen in water!!! Oh noes... [link to www.google.com] Its on the car... OMG its melting! [link to www.google.com] It's fantastic that you posted a picture of what pollen looks like in water. If you look you can clearly see that it does not mix with the water but just floats in it. I've seen this A LOT and this has always been the case when I have seen pollen in water. No matter what type it is or how vigorously it is stired or shaken it will not really mix. This is because water/rain is a natural element that the pollenating plants have to account for when attempting germination. Now hopefully we can see some pics soon of what the yellow rain looks like. If it isn't leaving polleny smudges or it is mixed well into the water then we know it isn't pollen. If it is and we see this very distinctive floating instead of mixxing then we know it is probably pollen. However I must point out that apparently Japan (like you said) is very familar with pollen and what it can do since it is a major issue over there. So one would think they would know what pollen looks like in water. |
