It is also a very good idea to have materials ready for water purification Iodine toxicity is a dose and compound dependant thing. Most iodine is pretty safe unless consumed in gram amounts, however the amounts used to protect the thyroid add up into large doses pretty quickly especially for kids. I don't want anyone to potentially poison themselves or their child because of something that I posted, so I thought it was better to error on the side of caution. "Acute iodine poisoning is rare and usually occurs only with doses of many grams. Symptoms of acute iodine poisoning include burning of the mouth, throat, and stomach; fever; nausea; vomiting; diarrhea; a weak pulse; and coma."
