Do Irish and Italians count as white?

I've been wondering this myself. The Italians are mostly arab in the south of Italy but in the north they are clearly Nordic European. The Irish are also very dark skinned with dark features in some areas but in others they are red-headed, freckle-faced, pale skinned. The dark Irish, or black Irish as they are known, are also mostly arab.

I guess it depends on what area of the country you are talking about. All of Europe was overrun by other races so there are some areas that have dark people and other areas with lighter skinned people. Germans tend to have pale skin and dark features due to the invasion of Mongols about 2000 years ago. Yes, that's right, the Aryan race is made up of people that are part Asian.

When the Armada was destroyed by the British navy in the early 17th century, the Spanish-Arab sailors washed ashore and landed in Ireland. You may be right to but only to a certain extent. If you look at most of the black Irish, they tend to have features similar to latin americans. They could easily pass for eachother. Danica Patrick looks very much like a latina. Burt Reynolds looks decidely Mexican. And so on.

Let's clarify what is meant by White in America:
1. Caucasian ancestry.
2. Old-school American culture.
3. No identification with any other cultures other than American.

However, does this mean that Italians that assimilate American culture can be considered White? What about Hispanics that have dropped their heritage and assimilated with American culture?

The big question is why does there have to be a different definition for White in the US than in other countries? In all other countries around the world White means caucasian.

Iranians are Persian, so yes they are Aryans and distant cousins of the Germans. Some Afgans are also Aryan and have blond hair and blue eyes. Of course, there are other Afgans who are Arab. south italians are not darker becuase of arabs. they are like that because that area is populated with mediteraens just like greece. in fact it was a greek colony in the past. in the north settled some germanic tribes like the lombards (lombardia).
