In all seriousness. I'm sorting thru my food/supplies and going ok, this looks good and then I think...

Shit. It doesn't matter in a week, a month, a year. Even if I have enough supplies for 10 years, at one point, I'll run out and have to go shopping. And, I131 aside, since it has a short half-life, the others don't. Cesium will be in the water/soil til I die. The other junk will still be floating around, assuming we're not totally wiped out, while my great-great-great grandchildren will be walking the Earth. At some point, we'll ALL be eating/drinking contaminated food, right? Even if we grow our own stuff, unless we dig down every year, several feet, AND keep things all indoors/covered and transport them inside without ever exposing them to the outside air, they'll be contaminated.

I know, I know, I'm an idiot. But still, this makes sense right? We can't avoid it forever, can we?

We actually purchased a ton of top soil 21 tons delivered by truck and 400 3 yard bags. They will sit in the barn until the reactors are under control. Then we will plow off the top soil of our garden and replace the soil.

I honestly don't think we need to be alarmed in North America.
If the rad. gets us, the whole earth is doomed.
I really don't want to live a Mad Max scenario anyway.

There is no reason to prepare for fallout.

Peace is the only option. Hope for peace. Hope for true change.

Ironically...I don't believe post-fallout survivalism to be true living.

Just trying to perpetuate a ghost of a life that once was.

Of all the contingency plans I've made, they do not include nuclear fallout. I had a gal call me the other day, practically in tears because she couldn't find KI and was pregnant.

She asked me what my plan was. I told her I was right with God and ready to go at a moment's notice. Other than that, I didn't have an emergency preparation plan for nuclear radiation.

But what if this isn't an option? I have a basement, but it's exposed to the elements (the walls were underground at one point but the previous homeowners dug out the yard to level it out and now most of the basement is above ground level) with shitty windows and I don't have the money to replace them right now. Even if I put plastic sheeting on them and taped them up, the wooden sills are flimsy at best, no real shield from the elements (and yes I have a lot of bugs down there come fall/winter, it's gross and I have a large stash of various remedies around the house for them).

Go and sit in your closet for the next three days. Eat in there, sleep in there, poop in there, pee in there, everything. No washing. You can't waste the water. And don't turn on the light, either. Because you won't have any electricity when it really happens.

Just stay in there and don't come out for three days.

Then imagine doing that for a year or two. Or more.

Me, I think I'll save that bullet for myself.

Just fill sandbags and put them in front of your basement windows. Remember its about density. The more mass you have between you and the radiation the better.

Now this makes me sad, because that IS what will happen, right? Things will be a shell of what we had 3 weeks ago, now. 3 weeks ago, this stuff wasn't even on our radars, and things were good. Now we're all planning to die from radiation.

Which really, my only peace I can make with that, I'm going to die of cancer someday. My Grandmother had the gene, she died of cancer. My Mom has the gene, she's currently in the last round of treatment for breast cancer. Odds are, I have the gene, and I'm not gonna live to see 80. Even if cancer doesn't get me, the heart disease running rampant in my genetic pool will.

I just don't want to see my son suffer any of this crap. That's the part that gets me.

People who prep to stay put in their homes and land are fucking idiots.

The best prep is a passport, a lot of cash, and healthy legs.

Movement AWAY from the situation is the best plan, not staying put in a chaotic environment. Listen, it doesn't matter how many guns you have, how much food, etc...if the gov't wants your shit, they will take it..don't be so fucking naive, you stupid "preppers".

Have an offshore bank account, a passport, some cash, and the ability to escape danger...that's the ONLY WAY to make it through a post-appoc. world.

We are planning not just to survive but to thrive.Prepping is not about any one disaster, never has been.It is about planning your life so any one disaster does not wreck it.If you plan to survive you can,but plan to thrive and your life as a whole will be better.

I do not care what people think about prepping. There are those that say it is a waste of money. We waste 0 money. We store what we eat and rotate everything. We shop sales.Even the mundane stuff like soap.We have been busy learning new skills.

There will always be some event that sparks fear into the hearts of men.We are prepared as best we can be.For us there is nothing to be afraid of.The ones who really live in constant fear or denial are the ones who refuse to take personal responsibility for there own well being. If you can show me a man who is self sufficient,I can show you a man who lives life with out fear.

We are close. The only real thing we lack is 100% energy independence, and we are working on it.

There doesn't appear to be any flaws in your argument.

While the radiation probably won't kill everyone, it's sure going to cause a lot of health problems added on top of all the health problems that have already stretched us.

Let's say it merely increased morbidity 10%. That's a hell of a lot. Especially down the road as cancers start popping up faster and faster.
