How is the business idea of deriving power through nuclear fission even legally allowed, when it carries the risk of destroying the planet and every mammal on it for millions of years into the future? Quoting: RaaBjornWho would anyone want to run a company like that? Why is this existing? Why is it even going on? What the hell are we doing, who allowed this? I fear it will happen again and again, accumulate and spread until the whole planet is uninhabitable. Why are we doing this? Is it our fault this is going on? Well, you see after WWII the Atomic Energy Commission (or whatever they called it back then) was really hot for the power companies to build nuclear power plants. Seeing the potential dangers the power companies wanted no part of this. The US Government then passed a law that basically said ANYBODY that hooks up to the power grid and PUTS IN POWER would have to be compensated. They were telling the power companies either build nuclear plants or the government will build them and they'd have to pay for the power generated. So, US power companies were blackmailed into building the plants. I don't know the specifics of the history in Japan but... "Everybody lies." |
