I find hilarious in the stalker games how amazingly they have mixed/encoded the moon with the Chernobyl event hahaha!
Pay attention the scientists at the zone are called c(moon)-consciousness and whoever makes it to the zone(moon) gets his memories erased and programmed with a mission and sent back outside the zone.

Also in the zone there's the wish granter where all humans are brainwashed to find there everything they wish where its actually a trap and the only thing they find is their death!

The brain scorcher outside the zone can symbolize our very own van allen belt!
Similar symbolism was shown in the fallout new vegas old world blues with the antennas surrounded the whole area and anyone who was getting close to them trying to exit the crater would faint and find himself at the center/lab of that area with his memories erased!

They were also saying to the prisoners of that area that there is no life ourside the crater(planet earth symbolism) so no one attempts to exit/escape and they had also put measures in place to prevent escapes too.(which reminded me the lunar queen from tomb raider 2013 saying "no one leaves")
