Earth Daughter User ID: 1308445 United States 03/31/2011 04:03 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I can't believe some people are defending this bull shit. Did you not hear the hoop had been there for 60 years? Idiots claiming it was a hazard to traffic, the thing was in a cul-de-sac for fucks sake, how much traffic could there be? Did you not hear the DELDOT bitch lie directly to their face before stealing their hoop? Did you hear the pig tell them they couldn't stand on their own land? This is indefensible, we need to stand up for our fellow citizens, your rights may be next to go. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1279739Yep, I heard her say they could lay it on their driveway at first. She was a complete liar. Then pointing to their house and telling them to 'get in the house' like they were little kids was really disgusting. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1302949Probably some bitches complaining because they are trying to sell their house and they think all the hoops are eyesores. Anonymous Coward User ID: 1319890 United States 03/31/2011 04:08 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | We live near where those basketball goals, some perched not on private lots, but on the islands between the sidewalk and the street(that belong to the county but the property owner has to maintain), were removed—for being a hazard to traffic and dangerous to the ball players. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1309758This is not really an issue of “private property”, but more an issue of using a public thoroughfare as a playground. The goals were on the edge of the street, on the island, but the games were played in the street, because the street is paved and the ball dribbles better on blacktop than lawn. There were several minor accidents and many near misses by oblivious child and adult ballplayers. Skateboarding is not allowed on public streets because it is a danger to skaters and drivers. The same danger and obstruction of traffic on public roadways where there are rules about how and where you can park , drive, ride a bike is the unreported issue here. Drivers pay license fees and are forced to buy insurance and comply with the rules of the road to use those streets, and shouldn’t have to dodge basketballs and mouthy cussing young adults to get past their game. New Castle County has spent a fortune on playgrounds and recreation centers with basketball courts. There was even Clintoon’s famous “midnight basketball” there a few years back, funded by the taxpayers. I have no problem with those homeowners putting up a basketball goal in their yard, and playing raucous basketball all night long if they want to—if they keep the game in their yard and out of the street that is dangerous to drive on if there are distracted kids obliviously playing basketball and chasing lost balls. As a kid I had a basket in my driveway, which my father had paved to facilitate better ball handling—but we kept the game in the driveway and off the road, even though we lived on a cul-de-sac without much through traffic. Common sense suggests that kids and balls are no match for 2 ton SUVs This story has been reported in a very incomplete and one-sided way. If one of those kids was killed by a car when he ran in front of it those parents would be asking “why did the police let them play ball in the dangerous street with traffic going through”? This belligerent basket-owner seems to think his basketball games are what that street in front of his house is there for—not the traffic that pays fees to expect a safe unobstructed roadway to drive on. You are simply trying to justify the government making and enforcing nanny laws. |

Yep, accidents can happen anywhere at anytime. Can't control everything. I think the reason things are getting so nazi is because of all the lawsuit happy people. The city or county gets sued because little Johnny broke his arm playing on one of those hoops, and it pretty much ruins it for everyone else.
