I am confident that these results will help improve our understanding of the dynamics of world oceans." |

These are Bouguer gradients for the whole planet ? Gawd I love science. In geodesy and geophysics, the Bouguer anomaly (named after Pierre Bouguer) is a gravity anomaly, corrected for the height at which it is measured and the attraction of terrain. The height correction alone gives a free-air anomaly. On Earth the effect on gravity of elevation is 0.3086 mGal/m decrease when going up, minus the gravity of the Bouguer plate, giving the Bouguer gradient of 0.1967 mGal/m. [link to en.wikipedia.org] |

Quoting: SickScentIt looks like the majority of Africa to the Mid Atlantic region will be an area of interest for sure. It's interesting if you watch the animated version. As it rotates away Africa and towards the Americas, you can start to see some curvature in "gravity" |

Very cool indeed... could it also help in EQ predictions? I don't know. I was just looking at this satellite's findings today... |

Comedian User ID: 1321922 United States 04/01/2011 05:10 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | why does gravity decrease when rising in elevation? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1108850It should increase as there is more mass beneath you, I thought. good question. Don't know, you need to ask a Gravitard. 1) Bonus point for coining the term "Gravitard" 2) This tells me that either atomic density under the surface of the Earth is far from uniform (which we know already), and more-dense elements are congealed in certain areas causing gravity peaks and troughs, or 3) That whole "Push gravity" thing might have legs. Don't run. You'll just die tired. |
