Why would anyone think God needs them to convert people. Remember God?The all knowing all seeing creator of the universe? Why would he need any person to do anything? Doing sly deceitful things like putting a bible in the glove box is evil. |
Edward Kelly User ID: 711352 United States 06/25/2009 10:28 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | So, hubby and I had to buy a new (used) car. We live high up in the Colorado Mountains, having just moved here from Colorado Springs, thinking we would escape the radical, brainwashed Christians who have taken over the city and live out our lives in relative peace. There is a small car dealership here, and we didn´t want to drive down to Colo springs and endure high pressure salesmen. We had the car picked out, only needing to test drive it, which we did. We dickered the car down a few hundred bucks and go inside to do the paperwork. There was an autographed photo of Bush and Stepford wife, a bookcase full of Christian books, a very large crucifix behind the dealer´s wife´s desk. The wife had that vacant Stepford look, something about her didn´t sit well with me. I nudged hubby, calling his attention to the Christian surroundings. We were both thinking, "Oh, no, she is going to try to convert us." Just before we sign the final paperwork, she asks if we are "Christians." Hubby isn´t as patient as me. He blurts out "NO". She lost her Stepford look and assumed a cold, dead stare. She quickly finished up, gave us the keys, etc., and we leave. I was embarrassed by hubby´s response, but also totally miffed that our religious status had anything to do with their selling us a car. I get into the new/used car to drive it home, open up the glove box, and there it was...a copy of the New Testament - which hadn´t been there when we had test driven it an hour earlier.... Quoting: Heathen Car Buyer 0I guess there is no escape. It's really none of their business. My religious / spiritual beliefs are mine and not the business of others. Especially a used car salesperson. |

mfgl User ID: 616779 United States 06/25/2009 10:29 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Perhaps you should wonder why someone else's decoration, free gift to you (new testement)and a question probably asked in small talk while completing the boring process of paperwork makes you fell so bad I don't see how it affects you in any way. Just ignore the religeous decorations , Say no, i'm not and I'm not interested thank you, and dispose of the new testement. Why should you let these minor things disturb your peace. Feeling anger (or possibly repressed guilt) is kinda stupid. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 665645bingo |

Really shows that something deep in her heart is troubled and does not want to be disturbed. Molly User ID: 711413 United States 06/25/2009 11:46 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | When the lady asked if you were Christian, it could have been to avoid talking about something? That made no sense, let say it this way: Quoting: WinningjobI worked for one week last year just off the STRIP and my boss asked me if I was Christian before she decided to talk about her opinion of the election and end times ect. My take was that she didn't want to waste my time or her time if I thought she was wacko...didn't want to hear anything religion ect. I don't know about the car dealer though. I was in an office yesterday and the guy is Jewish, so had he asked me if I was jewish, I would assume it would be the same thing as the Christian lady. Really what I am trying to say is there is so much religious persecution, people may be leery of discussing anything remotely related to religion and since generally business and religion do not mix, they are not going to discuss anything if you are going to be offended or they feel that they may be offended. It could be as simple as hey I am going to wish you a good day or blessing in (INSERT RELIGION HERE) or not, who knows. I don't think it is strange to at all to be asked if you are a christian, a jew or pending on where you live if you are a muslim. However, I do think had I been asked or the lady asked from the car dealer if you were a satanists...now that may be strange. Winningjob, are you the only SANE person in Vegas? Because I've yet to meet anyone as nice as you appear to be- with the exception of those I see on weekends at Central Christian in Henderson. Let me know if you'd ever like to go- many cool people attend. OK. Before everyone gets upset that I just mentioned a church in a thread that has the word "Christian" in it's title.... 1. OP, unless you were exaggerating when describing your experience I imagine the Christian couldn't help noticing that you were absorbed in looking at all of the books in her bookcase, etc. Maybe she thought you were actually interested in the subject matter and that's why she asked. 2. I agree that your husband's hostile response is probably what turned this situation "south"- not that she was offended that you're not Christian. Most Christians want to share what we know to be our truth because it's something that gives us peace and joy. But the majority of us (not all) don't look forward to arguing the point with others. It's not worth it to us. We know our fate and we also know we'll be answering to God and He certainly doesn't want us treating others badly or upsetting them. 3. I'd LOVE to find a Christian car salesman. I'm willing to bet you got a very fair deal and no "lemon". 4. I can almost assure you the bible was there in the glove box all along and you just NOTICED it afterward. The woman wouldn't "waste" a good book on someone who would most likely throw it in the trash. Again, I think you probably just exaggerated a bit to make the story a little more interesting, which is fine BTW. But please don't attribute false events to the Christian woman if they aren't true. That's not really fair to the rest of us. 5. I hope I've shown you that there are rational and respectful Christians out here. We're not all freaky people. And in fact, I'm so comfortable in my beliefs and faith that if anyone sees this and wants to know more about the peace of having Christ in our lives you can write me at [email protected]. I know the consequences of posting that- I'm not an idiot- which might be all the more reason to get to know the reason I'm not afraid of much. Love, Molly |

My aunt was a new-ager until she was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. The stones and wilderness just were not cutting it for her soul, her peace, while facing death. She is by no means an evangilist, just has a real relationship with God who has given her peace. She knows where she is going when she leaves here - what a great thing to look forward to. When you look at the beauty of Earth, just imagine how much better God created Heaven to be...I think that is a great promise for us! |

ouroboros User ID: 704779 United States 06/25/2009 01:49 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Had an experience a few years back with an optometrist. The regular Dr. was out of the country doing the doctors without borders thing and I agreed to let her new associate give the eye exam. No biggie, just my regular check-up. This young man walks in, super clean-cut, with an ear-to-ear grin and after a brief conversation proceeded to look into my right eye. He shouted "Praise God", and I about fell out of the chair, I kid you not. I told him he scared me and with a little giggle he proceeded to the other eye and said a bit quieter, "Hallelujah". Moving right along he started clicking through the different lenses and made a religious comment each time I chose one over the other. By this time strange thoughts were going through my mind such as if he put his hand on my forehead in an attempt to exorcise demons, I'd have an accidental knee jerk or similar reaction to defend myself. Weird experience to say the least. A year later when my appt. card arrived, I called Melanie, the Dr., and asked if she was going to do the exam or her asst. We had a good laugh when I related my experience. She said he was no longer with her practice and did not realize he was an evangelist. He had even gone so far as to proselytize to a few of her patients after they kindly requested he keep his affirmations to himself. He did a complete Jekyll/Hyde and condemn them to hell! She said reassuring and apologizing to her patients had turned into a full-time job. |
