How to Make a cheap and easy beehive. Free honey!

3 years ago a colony of European honey Bees moved into the cap of of our couple hundred gallon spherical propane tank.

The bees where happy for 6 months, until the propane folk came out and decided to 'freeze' them to death with liquid propane.

Within the months their colony completely filled the cap with honey comb. So much so it took two guys to pry the cap off, and a gusher of honey came out.

The bee Keeper I did manage to get to come out to look at the situation told me bees will make a nest anywhere that has a small single opening and one where they can control the heat of the colony.

We have another colony up in one of the old palm trees, these trees are so large we no longer bother with cutting off dead fronds. The colony has been there for 5 nearly 6 years.

The only reason why bee keepers keep tidy square boxes is for the ease of getting at the individual combs of honey.

I dont like bee' when ever I see any i spray them with Raid .

Make sure you get wicks that don't have the lead in them. I get all cotton, but they may make them out of hemp somewhere.
