Thats clearly NOT Jesus. Say what you want, Jesus isn't ugly, and he doesnt have soft female characteristics. this has a better Chance at being Mary then Jesus. Jesus is magnificent and beautiful, and perfectly handsome. This crap, naw.

I'm not an expert in these sorts of things by any means...

But the fact that it is a metal-worked object is significant. This suggests to me the involvement of someone of Roman influence.

:mmmmhmm:

Yep... I think the influence in the early Christian days of the Roman elite has been downplayed.

It's entirely possible there was a "third group" operating within the ranks of Roman society that saw the early Christian groups as a perfect opportunity to enact their agenda. afro

The Bible specifically states that the coming Messiah would be Unfortunate looking, so that people would not be attracted to him. The bible also says "does not even nature show you that long hair is unnatural for a man?"

Just saying. For the record

The Bible does not describe what Christ look like in human form, you are trying to add to the Bible.

There is a reason the Bible did not record what Christ look like in human form,God is spirit.

This is how the Bible describes Christ/God and even this is parabolic language..

Rev:1
14 His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire;
15 And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters.
16 And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength.

Chill buddy... I have not yet heard TXGal4Truth say she was going to add this to a Bible. This is clearly extrabiblical stuff.

I wonder what you feel about the index, the maps, the table of contents, chapters and verses? Or commentaries?? Those things were all added to the Bible. I would dare say that they are very helpful too!

The image is eerily familiar: a bearded young man with flowing curly hair. After lying for nearly 2,000 years hidden in a cave in the Holy Land, the fine detail is difficult to determine. But in a certain light it is not difficult to interpret the marks around the figure’s brow as a crown of thorns.

The extraordinary picture of one of the recently discovered hoard of up to 70 lead codices – booklets – found in a cave in the hills overlooking the Sea of Galilee is one reason Bible historians are clamouring to get their hands on the ancient artefacts.

If genuine, this could be the first-ever portrait of Jesus Christ, possibly even created in the lifetime of those who knew him.

(Isaiah 53:2)... “He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to Him,
nothing in His appearance that we should desire Him.”...
This tells us that on the outside - the appearance of Jesus was
just like any other man - ordinary looking.

1 Corinthians11:14 Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him? .. He probably had short hair, because he would obey his own word.

Revelation 1:14-17... tells us what he will look like when he returns, not as he was.

from your link OP.

"In this context, it is important that while the Dead Sea Scrolls are rolled pieces of parchment or papyrus containing the earliest-known versions of books of the Hebrew Bible and other texts – the traditional Jewish format for written work – these lead discoveries are in book, or codex, form which has long been associated with the rise of Christianity".

So, I'm wondering if these are fake. But after 5 years, one wold think they would have more transcribed by now.

Wondering if this is the little book that couldn't be opened?

70 codices, 7 seals?

“Who is worthy to open the book and break its seals?”

Maybe they can't open it yet?

But what if these are not fakes, and someone was worthy to break the seals?

After looking carefully at the picture, my guess it isn't the face of the crucified Jesus. It could be Paul, as Paul was the one who traveled all over to deliver the message to the people of Israel. He was martyred in Jeruselem, and so may have been remembered by those to whom he preached the Gospel.

Whoever it is, he was beaten bloody. His left eye is swollen shut, his nose cracked, and blood running out of his left nostril. I see him clean shaven.

from your link...

"Peter Thonemann at Oxford has staked his career on the conclusion that the lead codices being discussed recently are forgeries executed within the last 50 years. The following is what he wrote to Elkington in an email after he was asked late last year to comment on the authenticity of the plates based on some photos:

A surprisingly easy task, as it turns out! The Greek text at the top of your photo no. 0556 reads: ΛΛΥΠΕΧΛΙΡΕ&#923;ΒΓΛΡΟΚΛΙΕ&#921;ΣΙΩΝ, followed by ΛΛΥΠΕ in mirror-writing.

This text corresponds to ΛΛΥΠΕ ΧΛΙΡΕ ΛΒΓΛΡ Ο ΚΛΙ ΕΙΣΙΩΝ, i.e. ἄλυπε χαῖρε, Ἀβγαρ ὁ καὶ Εἰσίων, followed by the word ἄλυπε again, in mirror writing. The text at the bottom of your photo no. 0532 is the first part of the same text again: ΛΥΠΕΧΛΙΡΕΛ&#914;Γ, i.e. [ἄ]λυπε χαῖρε, Ἀβγ…

The text was incised by someone who did not know the Greek language, since he does not distinguish between the letters lambda and alpha: both are simply represented, in each of the texts, by the shape Λ. The text literally means ‘without grief, farewell! Abgar also known as Eision’. This text, in isolation, is meaningless."

Peter Thonemann opinion, was based on photos only.

This is not solid evidence.

It wasn't an 'opinion'....it;s a fact!

Rev 3:9 Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee.

Many Jews just can't ACCEPT the fact that the 'coming of Jesus' made it possible for Gentiles to join them (some of them) in Heaven. If it weren't for the fact that a non-Christ believing Jew is 'cut-off'....to make room for a 'grafted in' Gentile, only 'Israel' would be redeemed from this earth...kind of a double-edged sword?

ALL believers LOVE Christ...yet, some Jews won't accept Gentiles..AND..some Gentiles cannot accept Jews...sad, but true.

One of my favorite passages...
Rom 11:16 For if the firstfruit is holy, the lump is also holy; and if the root is holy, so are the branches.

Rom 11:17 And if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive tree, were grafted in among them, and with them became a partaker of the root and fatness of the olive tree,

Rom 11:18 do not boast against the branches. But if you do boast, remember that you do not support the root, but the root supports you.

Rom 11:19 You will say then, "Branches were broken off that I might be grafted in."

Rom 11:20 Well said. Because of unbelief they were broken off, and you stand by faith. Do not be haughty, but fear.

Rom 11:21 For if God did not spare the natural branches, He may not spare you either.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1325874

yes this is true but christians also are guilty of the same thing, they transferred all of israels blessings upon themselves cause israel didnt exist, and assumed that they was the promised ones, only to have israel reborn and christians cheated out of the bird seat they took for themselves. the fact that israel being restored have spawned all sorts of conspiracy theory. even some hard core christians denying their jewish bretheren. and openly calling them all sorts of evil. but reguardless, they still occupy the land, and no one can take it from them. to my mind these christians really need to do some self examination. a house cannot stand being divided against itself, Jesus knew this. so, you either have the spirit of God, and know his will. or you do not, and are in danger of hell fire. do you hate your brother?

i understand why people would try to shed these imagined shackles, they have the promises the covenants and in the end when they are unblinded, after the numbers of the gentiles are filled, they too will have the savior. and the gentiles will have the outer courts. but atleast we will all be in heaven, right? with palm branches waving, remember? no hunger, no pain, no tears?

from those who are given much, much is required. israel was given much, but the gentiles not as much. dont worry, we will all be able to go to the house of Jacob and learn how to worship our God. isnt it not written that we would grab them by the arm and ask them to teach us such?

you can not enter the kingdom of heaven unless your like a child, ready to learn. i dont know how to worship God, thank God I have a Savior, else I would be trully lost.

there is only one thing i have been able to do, and even that wasnt on my own, so i can not boast, is ask Jesus into my life. and it is God that put that into my heart, when i asked Jesus to come into my life, it was Jesus who went unto the Father, it was then the Father who sent the Holy Spirit to dwell with me and lead me into all truths.

definately palm branch waving material in need of instruction on how to worship God. but hey, atleast we will be able to sing and dance right? and tend a garden full of trees and partake of a feast and drink wine in celibration.

in all actuality, i think this life is interesting but the next one will probably be alot more interesting, cause i think its billing is being vastly undersold. whats the return in this investment? what is it that we will ultimately be required to do? God has invested much into man, only to wave palm branches and to submit unto his will?

either we are a replacement of some sort or something ultimately will be gained from this. a tree bears fruit, and then those fruit seeds when planted, tended and took take of will grow more trees and in turn the process is repeated over and over untill you have an orchard.

the owner sends his son to collect his profit from the renters on the money they made off the orchard. the orchard continuously makes fruit so there is still profit to be made off the orchard, an orchard that produces will not be abandoned.

God does invest, but he expects a substantial return. but i dont understand what the return is. waving palm branches? bowing to his authority?

sorry im rambling

The Bible does not describe what Christ look like in human form, you are trying to add to the Bible.

Rev:22:18
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1052454

I'm not adding to anything. I just posted the article. txstly
 Quoting: TXGal4Truth

Than why post something that is clearly a false teaching?

There is a reason the Bible did not record what Christ look like in human form,God is spirit.

This is how the Bible describes Christ/God and even this is parabolic language..

Rev:1
14 His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire;
15 And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters.
16 And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1052454

Jesus was a man not GOD and Christ was not even part of his name
You are describing GOD no where did it say CHRIST/GOD

and yeah yeah I know you will come back and try to shove some bible tard crap at me for telling you the truth
Fanaticism is a belief or behavior involving uncritical zeal, particularly for an extreme religious or political cause or in some cases sports, or with an obsessive enthusiasm for a pastime or hobby. Philosopher George Santayana defines fanaticism as "redoubling your effort when you have forgotten your aim"[1]; according to Winston Churchill, "A fanatic is one who can't change his mind and won't change the subject". By either description the fanatic displays very strict standards and little tolerance for contrary ideas or opinions.

Re: 2,000 Y/O "Booklet" Has The First Ever Portrait Of Jesus??
Thats clearly NOT Jesus. Say what you want, Jesus isn't ugly, and he doesnt have soft female characteristics. this has a better Chance at being Mary then Jesus. Jesus is magnificent and beautiful, and perfectly handsome. This crap, naw.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1304275

Isn't Christ described as "no apparent beauty, that man (people) should him desire (be attracted to)?

I have always thought that Jesus was a rather plain-looking individual, who did not PHYSICALLY stand out, rather it was his actions and message that stood out.

Re: 2,000 Y/O "Booklet" Has The First Ever Portrait Of Jesus??
The tiny booklet, a little smaller than a modern credit card, is sealed on all sides and has a three-dimensional representation of a human head on both the front and the back. One appears to have a beard and the other is without. Even the maker’s fingerprint can be seen in the lead impression. Beneath both figures is a line of as-yet undeciphered text in an ancient Hebrew script.

Astonishingly, one of the booklets appears to bear the words ‘Saviour of Israel’ – one of the few phrases so far translated.

Considering this relic is being held and deciphered by JEWS...anything I hear will be SUSPECT....sorry, they tend to deceive.

It wasn't an 'opinion'....it;s a fact!

Rev 3:9 Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1325874

and it is an opinion not a fact

Behold you are and idiot and can not read

Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan

Lets see Synagogue was the word for a place of worship it has the same meaning as Church (which was not used then)Temple or synagogue
So what was being said was this is a temple or place of worship where they are not worshiping God but are worshiping false Gods and Idols (very popular in those times)

which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie
now this I can laugh at since I have been told there were no JEWS at that time only Hebrews which are ancient Jews by the way. So with that being said your Bible was obviously written latter
what that is saying is they who say they are (JEWS) and they are not
so these are people who practiced something else and were not Jews
Wow how hard is that to understand?? Just like the people who say they are Christian, Muslim or any other religion and really are not because they are radicals making up a religion as they go.

I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee.

Jesus was a prophet and a teacher spreading the word of loving GOD. One God and not several and to not bow down to Idols.

Also considering this was Deciphered by a group of Christians and was written after the Hebrews were called Jews it makes the whole thing suspect does it not? False Jews could be any sort of religion..how do you know that this passage is not speaking of people who worshiped a fish GOD?

But you are not reading and interpreting anyway.. you are just following what the other idiots tell you. Use your own brain and think .

Re: 2,000 Y/O "Booklet" Has The First Ever Portrait Of Jesus??
This is what happened with the Dead Sea Scrolls, their published version is interpreted to fit the religion who's doing the translating.
Be it Jews or Christian sects or the Vatican
It's political and the they take years and years to publish a few scrolls.
Imagine in 2,000 years from now if all the religious threads on GLP were found and some were believed/used as inspired writings from God....? OMG
Same thing with all these ancient writings even when they are interpreted/translated correctly, people wrote them according to their personal beliefs.
