Sure but physicists are like the catholic church. They wouldn't know the truth if it smacked them upside the head. As far as a physicist is concerned, if the research is funded then it must be valid, LOL.

Even though some of my best friends are physicists, a lot of them are pretty closed minded and they can be pompous if not given reality checks every now and then.
