Tractor Supply considers a child's BB gun a weapon and you must now register to buy one!
I couldn't believe it! This weekend, we went to Tractor Supply to get some grains and replace my son's BB gun which (like most things made in China) was flimsy and broke after a few months. The cashier said in order to purchase the bb gun, she needed my husband's SSN (you know, to "verify that he was over 18" her words). When we questioned this, she said that the BB gun was considered a weapon and this information was REQUIRED to purchase one!

I was buying tomato stakes at the same time and asked if she needed my SSN for THAT purchase as they could just as easily be used as a weapon (what with the pointy end and all). This is getting completely ridiculous!!!!!! I mean, SERIOUSLY! What's next? Will we need to register a pitchfork purchase once all of the gun owners have been properly identified?! GIVE ME A BREAK!

Their "belief" does not trump the 2nd Amendment. It is clearly an infringement and a suit should be brought immediately against them.

Insanity.
"God forbid we should ever be 20 years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, & always, well informed... If they remain quiet under such misconceptions it is a lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty... Let them take arms... What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants. " - Thomas Jefferson in 1787

Yes, I am familiar with "Christmas Story", however, a rock can also take out an eye. Will I need to notify my government if I want to regravel my driveway? That's over a million "weapons" right there! chuckle

If we let this practice go to the extreme, everything will be a "weapon" before this is over with!

So instead of spending a little bit more and getting a good quality BB gun that will last your son longer than a few weeks, you decide to purchase yet another chinese made one at a tractor supply company of all places?

Western North Carolina and I don't know. If I had to say based on this, I'd say pretty oppressive (but I don't know).

It's the only store in our area that sells them besides Wal-mart. Should we have gone there instead!? ;)

Besides, it was more of an impulse purchase. We went there to buy scratch grains and this was by the checkout. Besides, the stock and barrel were "cammo". What 10 year old can resist that?!

I bought a BB gun at Academy Outdoors in December, they didn't ask for my SSN.

Tomato stakes double as vampire killers, no SSN required. :)

I hadn't thought of that! Surprised they are NOT making you register knife purchases! Or requiring that you keep sharp knives locked in a safe if you have young children in your home.

Also, what about electric staple guns. It even has the word "gun" in it. The slave class must be DENIED self-defense! No matter what form it takes! chuckle

Tell them they lost your business permanently and you will go elsewhere to get your feed supplies. Tell them exactly why you are doing this. Make sure upper management knows.

Finally, know that there are plenty of places where you can get a BB gun without the BS. Give them your business.

Remember it costs a company more money to replace a lost customer than it does to retain one.

You should have asked if this was a county, city, state or federal law, and had them site the law to you. Chances are it was a business rule trying to cover their ass, but you never know, it could be a city ordinance.

It is a weapon can take out an eye.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1270134

True. I went to high school with a guy who lost one eye from his younger brother shooting at him with a BB gun. I owned one myself (from age ~9 +/-); they were never very accurate and the BB pellets could bounce off wood and come back at you too.

And this:

So instead of spending a little bit more and getting a good quality BB gun that will last your son longer than a few weeks, you decide to purchase yet another chinese made one at a tractor supply company of all places?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 360613

My point of view now is to buy your son an actual .22 which is clearly a weapon and to oversee and give careful instruction which I never had much of either.

If an air weapon seems the better choice, buy a high quality rifled barrel pellet weapon (which costs more than the .22) and again give careful instruction and oversight.

Incidentally, since the topic is air guns, did you know Lewis and Clark carried an air rifle with them on their western exploration and used it in a matter Sun-Tzu would have approved?

Thanks for sharing this info.
You gotta think and notice things to keep up with these foos.
Two years ago a "guy" pulled up to our yard sale and started asking questions.Never got out of his truck. Parked on wrong side of road, talked thru window. This seems wacky, but this is just what he asked 2 older women selling fridge magnets, nik-naks, and potted plants.
"Do you have any 22s? Any rifles? Any guns at all? Do you have any swords? Any knives? How about spears? Got any Cellos or Harps?"
(That cellos and harps part just slays me ! hahahaha.)
I think about stuff. It was clear to me. You see, I had just gone to the tea party gathering in our town 2 days prior, dressed as a gramma, in an apron.
See?
It will get worse. No sparklers, bb guns, fertilizer, or Cello strings for you or me! Census every month, planes fly over every hour. Chips and Dips, anyone?
