It already has been known to be egg shaped for quite some time from its gravity.

And what a "coincidence" the Gulf of Mexico is at the opposite point of it from halfway between the greatest gravity and least gravity.

It's probably from the deformation of the huge comet impact that formed the Gulf and destroyed Pangea
