I've huddled in the hallway with my kids a few times for tornado warnings last year, so this isn't anything new. I've never seen the EAS go off like this before, otherwise I wouldn't bother posting at 2:30 in the morning, I'm normally well asleep by now lol. | Anonymous Coward User ID: 1328184 04/05/2011 02:36 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Hey guys. I'm living in Hampton, VA, hours away from getting hit by the storms coming in. By about 12:30am the EAS went off with its buzzing and the usual list of local cities/counties on the TV. Cable box totally went to EAS and took regular programming away. Now every 5-10 minutes since then, it is breaking in with the buzzing and everything again but the screen is yellow, no words or anything just buzzing. Quoting: StillComposedI called the cable company here cox communications, which I know isn't in control of the EAS but thought maybe they'd at least have an idea of whether they were testing or what the hell was going on. All they told me was that there was nothing that they knew of going on but that maybe it was an alert due to the incoming storms. Looking online I can see that there's no alerts for my area yet, but the storm isn't due to hit here for another 5 hours. Looking at local news websites and everything else and not a word about an EAS problem they're trying to work out or anything. Anyone know of anywhere I can look or if it's anything I should worry about? I'm pretty sure it's just testing or something but I always get a chill when the EAS goes off, not liking it going off over and over for almost 2 hours now with nothing to tell me. I'm envious. Out here in California we never get fun doom-filled weather events like tornados. Just the occasional playful earthqu.... |
| StillComposed (OP) User ID: 1315355 04/05/2011 02:50 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It got up to 84 here today. Didn't totally feel that way but the way the wind has been it's no wonder. Right now according to the the closest observation station here, wind is 23 mph sustained, gusting at 42 mph. This should be a beast to wake up to in a few hours by the looks of it. The radar I posted just indicated a possible tornado in central NC.
