Report reveals Japanese nuclear safety experts received large sums of money from nuclear industry

While the “profoundly man-made disaster” at the Fukushima nuclear power plant continues unabated with independent experts continually blocked from gaining access, it has now been revealed that the six members of a Japanese government team drafting the new nuclear reactor safety standards have received tens of thousands of dollars from the nuclear industry.

According to a report put out by Japan’s Kyodo News a whopping four out of six experts on the panel drafting new safety standards have received funds from companies directly involved in the nuclear industry.

The grants, donations and compensation range from 3 million yen (around $37,290) to over 27 million yen (around $335,600) each, according to data released by the Nuclear Regulation Authority (NRA).

While the NRA claimed that the members of the panel “have been selected in line with rules, and there should be no problem,” Kyodo News rightly points out that critics “say the members’ judgments might be swayed by the wishes of donors, exposing safety regulations to the risk of being watered down.”

Over one and a half years has passed since the accident at the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power station. Both US scientists, basing their findings on Japanese government data, and Tokyo Electric Power Company (Tepco) itself, admit that nuclear reactors are probably continuing to contaminate the Pacific Ocean with radiation.

The way the Establishment treats the issue is revealing, ranging from mild concern to glib indifference, to blatant double-speak. While the New York Times has a reputation for standard-setting journalism, close scrutiny of their reporting (cited below) shows they promote the best-case scenario while downplaying dangers. The word “glib” pretty much sums up their style. For example, the NYT notes at the end of their article that while on the one hand Tepco denies radiation is leaking into the ocean, Tepco’s “spokesman” said he could not rule out radiation leaks. NYT leaves it at that without pursuing the truth of the matter.

Whether there are high amounts of radiation or not, the most alarming thing that very few are even preparing for let alone talking about, should be the inbound debris from the initial explosions and tsunami that will arrive in 2013...

The Trouble We Are In
Large-scale nuclear disasters like Chernobyl or Fukushima are comparable with other deadly man-made phenomena. The number of annual global automobile deaths is 1.3 million (4). Terrible though it is, an automobile accident kills just once; radiation breaks down the Earth’s DNA of life. GMOs (genetically modified organisms) threaten to replace that fabric of life with an artificial and diseased template (5). Fukushima Radioactive Fallout in California and Alaska: Health Impacts on American Children

Radioactive isotopes blasted from the failed reactors may have given kids born in Hawaii and along the American West Coast health disorders which, if left untreated, can lead to permanent mental and physical handicaps.

Children born in Alaska, California, Hawaii, Oregon, and Washington between one week and 16 weeks after the meltdowns began in March 2011 were 28 percent more likely to suffer from congenital hypothyroidism than were kids born in those states during the same period one year earlier, a new study shows. In the rest of the U.S. during that period in 2011, where radioactive fallout was less severe, the risks actually decreased slightly compared with the year before.

Substantial quantities of the radioisotope iodine-131 were produced by the meltdowns, then wafted over the Pacific Ocean and fell over Hawaii, the American West Coast, and other Pacific countries in rain and snow, reaching levels hundreds of times greater than those considered safe.

After entering our bodies, radioactive iodine gathers in our thyroids. Thyroids are glands that release hormones that control how we grow. In babies, including those not yet born, such radiation can stunt the development of body and brain. The condition is known as congenital hypothyroidism. It is treatable when detected early.

The Australian Enenews contributor vital1 has analyzed a sample of black fungus (black substance) that was originated in Minamisoma, Japan.

I was sent this resin encapsulated sample of black fungus like material. It has reportedly come from somewhere in the Minamisoma area Japan. A contact in Japan sent this sample to a friend. This is my test chart of it. For those of you who have not looked at a scintillator test chart like this before. The position of the peaks in a the chart indicate what isotopes are present… This black fungus started growing on the concrete, and rock surfaces in Japan after the Fukushima Nuclear disaster. It appears to be bio-accumulating Cesium.
