I see what you're talking about and have been checking Aldebaran out too, and yes a few days ago Sirius was like a disco light. Same basic observations as the OP but not sure what star I was looking at. Well, I have been thinking as more and more reports come in that we are not actually seeing the stars 'blinking' at all, but rather atmospheric distortions. Sort of like putting a light through a prism. I have my own thoughts as to what could be causing these distortions but I am interested in hearing some opinions as to whether my guess could be correct and what some of you feel could be causing them. |

Thanks,, ive noticed the same thing with a specific star lately. i just got an android phone which has realtime google sky to identify planets and it said it was aldebaran too. |

There was a thread on tis awhile back, and folks went out and watch beattle Juiice, move around like crazy and flash lights too. |

I actually noticed last night that the sky was unusually dark for my area (Metro ATL) I was able to spot constellations in the low southern sky which as far as I can remember has been washed out with yellowish light pollution. The image through binoculars yields the same colors except closer. I cannot make any detail of the star or whatever it may be. I'm going to fire up the camcorder tonight and see if I can get some vid of Sirius and Aldebaran. Da wife was freaked out and watched for hours... |

I know what you mean. I've lived in this house since 1987 and I saw a star grouping or constellation that's brand new to me a couple of nights ago. I can see it from my deck to the west and I swear it's never been there before. |
