I drink maybe at most 10 alcoholic drinks a year and get between 5.5 and 6.5 hours a sleep Monday thru Friday and a tad more on weekends.

In response to Ac saying it was demons or evil spirit. Why would one be attracted to someone in general???

To cause fear and deception. Its working because people think they have been abducted by aliens.

Re: Alien abduction, Old Hag Syndrome, Sleep Paralysis.
Everyone experiences sleep paralysis every time they sleep. It is a normal function of the human sleep cycle and is a built in safety against physically acting out your dreams while sleeping.

What the OP is talking about though is Awareness During Sleep Paralysis or ASP. This occurs when the sleeper moves into a semi-awake state before the paralysis wears off. It can be a very frightening experience for someone who is unaware of this paralysis function (which unfortunately is most people).

My first experience with ASP was one of the most terrifying experiences of my life. Mine was the black shadow man/men.

I set about learning as much as I could about ASP and experienced it few more times with great fear. Eventually I learned to control my fear and the black shadow ceased to appear during ASP. Instead, I am now able to utilize the ASP state to embark on OBEs and Lucid Dreaming.

I strongly believe that the ASP aliens, hags, and shadows are nothing more than the conscious minds projection of fear of the unknown. Once you face that fear and overcome it, the door is opened to incredible realms of self exploration and understanding.

Re: Alien abduction, Old Hag Syndrome, Sleep Paralysis.
I will share something "very" personal.

I do drink. (beer) I drink on nights when my husband is out of twn twice a week.

I am so scared of being alone with the kids at night by myself I drink at night to fall asleep.

If I didn't drink...I would be a nervous wreck and would never be able to sleep through the night.

This is my life. Been this way since I was born. I can't ever remember not bing afraid of the dark.

I used to hide under my sisters bed in her room at night and sleep and she would get so mad at me in the morning.

Why would someone do this?

I would kick Doctors in the arms when they would try to come near me and my parents would drag me to the car...lie al the way to the hospital. I hated doctors and no one ever knew why...nor did I

I had an experience yrs ago with a boyfriend who once walked up to me while I was in the bathroom with the door shut and we had no power at the time(new apartment)and as he got closer I could feel his presence and the candle slowly went out..as soon as he knocked it did.

I have never forgotton that.

I also broke up with this person and a few nights after I had a xperience with something so freaking scary I wont ever forget it as long as I live.

It was massive, strong, grabbed my weist and pulled me tight, made it's way with me and it was like being raped by a huge Reptilian. This thing was not a man. Was not soft in any way...I remember feeling it's chest on me and it was hard...like armor. The strength in it's hands I thought I was gonna die...but I was blind the entire time.

Its tought to even talk about as I fear I may bring it back.

Re: Alien abduction, Old Hag Syndrome, Sleep Paralysis.
I have had hundreds , maybe thousands of SP episodes. I say this because from about the age of 12 to about age 19 I had an episode every time I slept or napped. I would dread falling asleep. When I got fed up and stopped being so afraid of sleep I got less episodes. These evil spirits feed on fear. I probably get an episode once a month now , more of a nuisance when I sleep now.

I'll also add my typical episode. Two types of episodes for 1. Can't move or breath feels like I'm about to die or 2. Can't move, but can hear(laughing, voices), sense, feel evil presence.

When number 2 happens and I open my eyes I see some very weird stuff. I have seen the hooded figure one time, looked like a mini grim reaper. I see what looked like a giant snake also, but it's mostly shadow like figure. Even though I've had many episodes I almost never open my eyes, maybe 10-20 times tops. So who knows what I could have seen if I did.
 Quoting: pdot

You probably don't open your eyes during those episodes for the same reason I don't - scared of what might be standing there.

Sometimes I swear it is like something out of a comedy film, the only difference is, it is not funny to us lol.

I don't know what it is, but I can tell you when I get those hag occurrences.

They usually occur when I go away on holiday and stay in a hotel. The only thing I can put it down to why it happens on those occasions is that many people have stayed in that same hotel room, many difference people, cultures and emotional states.

I have a strong feeling that if, for instance, a violent row or even a person who is very negative in their outlook or aggressive or controlling had stayed in that same room, I may have been picking up their vibes or whatever you want to call it.

It hasn't happened in every hotel room I have stayed in by any means though.

According to my own research, in most sleep paralysis episodes, the victim experiences 3 major entities/hallucinations. 1. Alien abduction is consistent with sleep paralysis in most cases. 2. In Newfoundland and England people experience an old hag, which i must add is documented back over 2000 years. And 3. A shadowy figure who either stands at the foot of your bed and/or attacks the victim violently. If you do suffer from SP i would really like to know which of these you experience. Yes i am aware of the scientific explanations and yes i have heard many christian inputs about demons, so i would appreciate no bible bashers or people who have a self taught degree. I merely want to compare the entities and include them in my research to find a connection.
 Quoting: Jet Wylie

I was 19 years old when mine began. Last for about 3-5 years. In my case as soon as my head hit the pillow I felt myself sinking and unable to move or speak.

The terror came in the form sensing a horrible presence rushing towards me from far away. I screamed at the top of my lungs - no sound came out (according to girlfriend at the time). Each episode last around a minute maybe twice a month.

Here's the kicker. I was wide awake and freaking out the entire time. What I mean by this is that as my head hit the pillow while still fully awake - it would just happen. Never knew when. Never had a funny feeling or major stress beforehand.

Re: Alien abduction, Old Hag Syndrome, Sleep Paralysis.
I have had sleep paralysis before, and I can tell you that it is a very real experience. A person of low intelligence (most likely american from the midwest etc) could interpret, an experience like this as an alien abduction.

Because i'm not an idiot, I realized what was happening to me, when it happened. You are fully awake, and you cannot move a muscle, you will also hallucinate, for me they were ghosts flying around above my head. If I had not previously read about sleep paralysis, I would have freaked out.

A very real experience, I have only had it happen 2 or 3 times in my life. If you want to experience this yourself, I recommend over sleeping. Force yourself to sleep 12-14 hours, and the odds of it happening are much much higher.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1294656

Now that is interesting, because I have found I will have SP and OOBEs when I have not had much sleep at all or if I am dog-tired.

Re: Alien abduction, Old Hag Syndrome, Sleep Paralysis.
I also want to mention that when I was heavily into witchcraft I dated several women who had experienced a dark figure in their dreams. They all described him as the same individual with a hat and long hair.

The coven I was involved in at the time was mostly comprised of women and ALL of the women described this man and claimed to have dreams about him, and at least one of the men (not me) claimed to have seen him as well.

I've experienced both sides of the religious spectrum (as far as Christians are concerned), and I have had the unique opportunity to observe all sorts of paranormal phenomenon from both sides of the spectrum.

I can tell you that there are "other beings" out there for absolute certain (as real as any of us) that you can sense with your actual 5 senses, without drugs, and without trances or anything of the sort. Not just that, but that others can experience them at the exact same time as you, in the the exact same way.

I don't know if they are demons, but I am certain that the description of demons and angels fits into the description of other entities I have encountered, though never during sleep paralysis.

I am currently floating two possibilities, one being that there is an interdimension or extradimension commonly called the spiritual which is inhabited by "other beings", and the other being that we are dealing with metamorphosis that also deals with other dimensions. Human beings might actual be a stage in this metamorphosis or not. If so, it might explain the interest in our health and reproduction that these entities have. Also, the greys could be considered nymphs. This metamorphosis could be an extremely long process, much like a periodic cicada. Such a phenomenon could be something that takes place every so many thousands of years or so after the nymphs are awakened by electromagnetic or heat phenomenon (would explain why the a-bomb explosion increased sightings and why aerosols are being sprayed in the atmosphere to heat the planet).

Another note of interest would be that metamorphisis would explain shapeshifting and also the funny descriptions of angelic beings that have wings and faces of bulls and men, etc. Also would explain Revelation Chapter 9 and the locusts. I don't know where I'm going with this second theory, it's actually a new thought that I am toying with, but that's not what your thread is about, so I'll just stop there.

Very, very interesting posting!!

Curious notion regarding humans being a stage in the process of metamorphosis too, for sure!

It is ok, I know this syndrom.
Before I did inform myself about it, I thought, too, there are aliens or ghosts or bad men!

But after I learned, that it is a natural thing, I learned to change my dreams - lucid dreaming! - and I swore to me, that I will every timy haunt that "black man" away and fight with him, when he should come again!

Since that time he did not come back, and I can have sweat sleep!

Feb 2010 I had an encounter with the shadow hatman at the end of my bed during my first ever spontainious OBE that started with what felt like my skin flapping or vibrating,I felt no sence of fear at all. It was the coolest experience I have ever had . Nothing since that..

Re: Alien abduction, Old Hag Syndrome, Sleep Paralysis.
I've been investigating this for years. I believe there is a connection, but there are even deeper connections if you wander into other areas such as abductions. Then you get into stories of jinn, elves, fairies, etc. All entities that kidnap people, steal things, and either live below ground or fly through the air. ALL of which also supposedly have the ability to "magically" manipulate a person including paralysis.

I've suffered from sleep paralysis, but I have never seen anything, just awoken with an inability to move. I never felt anything scary in the room either. Also, my father suffered from sleep paralysis when he was younger and night terrors when he was older. He and I also used to get leg cramps in our sleep (calf muscle). I don't know if the muscle cramps are related, but I just thought I'd mention.

As far as I know my older brother never had these things happen. Another interesting point would be that both myself and my father are the youngest sons. Again, don't know if that means anything, but it is a detail he and I share.

I have had ONE dream that I believe could have resembled a succubus, but it was not an Old Hag attack. It was a dream about a redhead, slightly unattractive who laughed and told me she'd be back in a month. The room in the dream had strange writing on the walls, like graffiti written in blood. As far as I know, she never came back, but then again I might not have recalled the dream if she did.

My mother and my aunt both experienced the "heavy chest" syndrome. Where they were convinced something heavy was sitting on their chests.

Whenever I experience sleep paralysis I simply fight to move and eventually I break free and am able to move. No need to cry out for help and say any magic names. I simply become extremely determined to move and within a few seconds I can, which leads me to believe that some sort of process is cutting off the signal from your brain to the nerves that control your muscles, but that the "link" can be re-established with intense conscious thought and an actual real effort to move. So "if" there are actually entities doing this their method is not foolproof and some individuals are capable of moving if they exercise their will in a very determined way.

Heaviness of the chest (in some people) would indicate to me as well that some sort of interference is happening within the nervous system to create this sensation. Sorta like how some bugs or serpents can entrance or paralyze their victims with neurotoxins or hypnotic suggestions. Though another possibility is simply being awakened while in deep sleep and the chemicals or hormones that cause that deep sleep are still too powerful to make yourself move (these chemicals are a natural defense to keep you from moving around and hurting yourself during deep sleep). HOWEVER, if a vicitim of sleep paralysis shows signs of being marked or bruise the natural explanation goes out the window, as if they are paralyzed they would be unable to accidentally or intentionally mark themselves. Signs of marking would indicate external influence.

When I was about 10 or 11 I woke up in the middle of the night and felt panic and saw a shadowy figure standing next to the bed. I couldn't scream or anything and couldn't take my eyes off of it either. The when I was 15 I had a "vision" I call it that cause I don't think i was dreaming. But anyway, there was this face floating above mine and saying in a very clear and calm voice, You might as well give it to me now because I will get it one day. I remember saying you can't have it and you'll never get it from me. He then said I will be seeing you again and disappeared.

As an adult and sometimes still I have horrific dreams and I can't move and I start to scream in my dreams but it's really hard to scream. I keep forcing myself to scream and then I wake up screaming. It's kinda weird. Just reading this whole thread has made me feel like the hair on my head was standing on end.

At the time and whenever I think about it, yes, I do think it was referring to my soul. I'm not really a believer so to say. I once did believe in god and all and then when I prayed I would feel nothing. So since I wasn't feeling anything I started praying to the "devil" and got nothing from there either and that's where I'm at now, an extreme skeptic/ atheist. But that one particular dream, vision, whatever has stuck with me for 25 years.

I use to get sleep paralysis all the time, id wake up in the middle of the night not being able to move at all. I could see with my eyes and think but i couldn't move. Only one time did i ever see anything. I was txting with my GF at the time and than all the sudden i couldn't move, And i saw this Figure come into my room and stand right next to my bed, It was around 6ft tall or more with a black cloak with a hood over its head (Best way to describe it is to think of the grim reaper with out his scythe) . And we just stared at each other for a while, i couldn't see its face or anything cause of the hood, the whole time i was thinking if i can somehow move my thumb to flick my phone open it would go away cause of the light from opening the phone. After a while i finally was able to do so and it just disappeared. This was about a year ago. I haven't had any sleep paralysis in about 6 months now.

Yes normally sleeping in a supine position (on your back) increases your chances of having SP. And yes SP is used by alot of people for OBE's, however it is not recommended.

I mean, you have to say to you, that you will KILL that monster - and because the monster knows it, it will stop to come again!

Very easy this method!

I am very interested in you. Tell me how long you took to overcome your fear, and please tell me how often you embark on your OBE's and Lucid dreaming. Does your lucid dream sometimes trigger the SP as well.

Re: Alien abduction, Old Hag Syndrome, Sleep Paralysis.
...

What you are trying to say is that our location influences our hallucinations and experiences during SP no? Or maybe you are trying to say that the entity is indeed real and subject to it's surroundings. In the case of the old hag, tell me.... why does a middle aged man in London experience and old hag which has very little effect as a fear inducing figure in today's modern society, and why does a man in Japan see the same grudge-like hag???
 Quoting: Jet Wylie

its all based upon what the human mind consumes. There is a definite cultural connection of fear. It took along time to figure this out myself, enough to be satisfied its all the same thing.

What I mean is that if a saw a wearwolf man i would probably laugh or atleast know it was in disguise. I wouldn't fear it as much. Samething with Dracula, could you imagine, however, people lost their minds about these things back in London or where ever. Fear embraced them.

Everyman truly has a great fear and that is what they feed upon. Mine is complete darkness, though it knows this. I am not as afraid of being eaten by a monster as much as am of being taken in the middle of the night and flown off to a place further than furthest star placed by God

Yes but... haha i know i am repeating myself here, but why an old hag?? What does she have to do with modern culture. UFO's i can understand and a shadowy malevolent figure i can understand, but her i cannot.
 Quoting: Jet Wylie

When I was just a boy about 5 years old, I saw the old hag one night when I was staying with my Grandmother. I was sent to my grandmothers room to go to sleep while she finished her last ciggaret, anyways, there is no way I fell asleep because her room scared me with old english furnature. One in particular was a giant wooden medicine cabnet that I used remember coming alive from previous visits.

Suddenly the door which was open enough to let in light cracked open more and I sat up thinking it was my Grandmother. What I saw was absolutely terrifing... It was an old lady on all fours with white long hair and a face of an old woman whos mascarra had ran down her face from crying. All the sudden it came trampling towards my side of the bed, now, between the bed and the door was approximately 15 feet, I jumped from the end of the bed out the door in one leap. I cried hystaricly with my grandmother and she just said i missed my mom.

Now, hear is your connection so listen close

Objects, especially antique objects can carry these demonic entities through being cursed. My Grandmother, was a Catholic and still is and in short her home is riddle with blasphamy of the Lord all over her house. One in particular, is she had a fairly large crusifix of Jesus and also hanging from the cross was a rosemary. Listen, people and hear my warning, do not bring into your home a crusafix for demons love them. It is nothing more than the celebration of the murder of Jesus the Christ.

I suspect that the Old Hag is related to suppression of the divine feminine.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1290067

Are you referring to Lilith?
 Quoting: Jet Wylie

Well Lilith would be part of it I suppose, but I am speaking much more generally.

"Fear of the unknown" is the key here.

Many ancient cultures embraced the divine feminine and organized Matriarchal societies. Some of them were extreme in their honoring the feminine over the masculine, but most sought balance between the two. With the rise of monotheism, and Judeo/Christian religions, Patriarchal systems became the norm. The Divine Feminine was removed from the equation or relegated to second class (as seen in the Cult of Mary).

We currently live in a culture that has spent thousands of years suppressing the feminine aspect of the divine. Since approximately 1/2 of the human population is physically feminine, this suppression opens the door to extreme inner turmoil.

So.. how does the Old Hag fit in?
Let's say that a man experiences ASP and due to the shock of finding himself paralyzed, unable to move, or call out, and this sudden and confusing state sends him into a state of complete terror. Since he has just barely awoken from the dream state, his subconscious mind is still playing an active role. The subconscious mind responds to the man's terror by giving that fear a form--a symbolic representation that he can interact with, and ideally, overcome. Let's say that the form in this case is the Old Hag.

Why her?
Perhaps the man has been excessively dominant and controlling--believing that men are superior to women. However, the subconscious mind knows that balance is the key and that for the man to be truly happy be must face his fear of the power and divinity of the feminine. The divine feminine is within him (as it is within all of us) but he has suppressed it, relegated it to the realm of the unknown and become fearful of it.

Or, perhaps he is in touch with his "softer side" and has difficulty living up to the societal demands of a "strong masculine man." But because society has taught him that femininity is the equivalent of weakness, he is afraid to accept himself for who he is. Not wanting to be a disappointment to society or himself, he attempts to suppress the feminine within him.

In both cases it was the men's fear that transformed the divine feminine into a hideous and terrifying Old Hag.

He doesn't have to be consciously aware of this inner struggle or of his unhealthy "worldview" for his subconscious to produce the Old Hag.

But why do women experience the Old Hag? Surely they could not be afraid of the Divine Feminine. Not so...
Many women have been taught their whole lives that they are inferior. Slaves at worst and "helpmates" and co-pilots at best. Rarely are women exposed to the idea that the Divine Feminine is EQUAL in value to the Divine Masculine.

Anyway... these are very simplistic examples and are only meant to illustrate the concept. I think it would be very interesting to further look into the connection between the Old Hag and a cultural suppression of the Divine Feminine.

Re: Alien abduction, Old Hag Syndrome, Sleep Paralysis.

I used to suffer from SP as a kid, not so much any more. But I have had very real experiences with at being at my bedside that left me feeling the most peaceful feeling I think I have ever had! It also left me feeling extremely curious.
