I have several I want to get rid of. Anyone still buying these or should I just take them to the dump? One is a huge one, like 55" but it has 480 resolution. I know some thrift stores won't even take them. Should I put them on Craigslist? I feel bad to dump them.

If they still work, you probably wouldn't get anything for them. You maybe could give them to Good Will.

I like the old tube televisions. Been looking to buy a vintage one for the bedroom for awhile. Kinda want a Philco Predicta but I like the ones wrapped in a nice wooden console too.

Watch some good black and white source material on an old tube TV and guess what? It looks as good or better than brand new HDTV. Tubes ROCK especially in amps. They don't build them like they used to. 31 years old fwiw.

I'll give 2 pieces of string and some chewed bubble gum. Ask for any more then that and I'll rescind my offer.

One string is from my curtain and the other was a loose thread off my cat scratching post. The gum was berry splash.

I know. I was just given a Philco stereo console from the 50s. All tubes not solid state. After it warms up it sounds wonderful and functions perfectly plus it's a beautiful piece of furniture{real wood}. People just do not want these and this one was being sold on the side of the road at a yard sale for $20.00. I absolutely love it and will buy any I come across.

Re: Would anyone still buy a non-flat screen TV, a used older one?
Only three hours of TV a day, and ONE channel in 1936
Originally cost half the average British annual wage at £100

For £5,000 you might have expected a bigger, flatter screen.

But this television does come with 75 years of broadcasting history – and you can still hook it up to a Freeview box.

Built in 1936, the Marconi type-702 is the oldest working television set in Britain.

People will still buy them!

Donate them to your local Goodwill.

A lot of people got the free converter boxes the government handed out before the switch to HD.

We don't have enough room or I would love a big old flatscreen for the kids to watch movies and play Wii on.
Sturdy tv's are a very good thing around children.tounge

Digital TV and HDTV are touted as being just the greatest thing. But they have their own picture-quality problems : tiling out, banding, over-compression problems, etc.

Standard def is better on a CRT.

DEAL. Save myself a trip to the dump!

But really, there must be people out there who dont have flat screens. Maybe I could get $40 for the big one. It would be great for a kids room, like kids are resolution snobs, they would be very happy with it. I had my 27" Magnavox TV, maybe 15-20 yrs old TV, for $10 and no one wanted it lol.

I agree. I have a very nice Sony Bravia LCD TV. I bought it when I gave away my Sony Wega TV. The bigger screen is nice and the lighter weight is great but the Wega CRT really had the better picture.

why not, I found a new home for mine, except it wasn't that big. I needed a small repair. Place them as "make offer". I still loved my TV but the cable connector came out when the cat feel off the climber and hit the cable on the way to the floor. My kids had been wanting to get me a flat screen so I took them up on it. My tv was a 32 inch i think. I found it's new home the day I listed it. It has NICE reception still, I would have not replaced it otherwise.

well I got one years ago, TV did not work, but the cabinet is gorgeous and is my "TV" STand, has my stereo, DVD etc, inside it. Almost the nicest piece of furniture in my house, paid $25 a long time ago.

No way. I replaced the capacitors in my old 50 inch Toshiba rear projection tv in the basement to repair it because that was easier than getting rid of it.
That tv is HD, but the HD on my LCD is so much better.

Some people believe new TVs have 2 way listening devices and cameras in them. So yes I would think they would want an old TV.

Lots of poor people can't afford a new TV. Check with a church or Goodwill. Put an ad in the paper.

Better yet pack it to the curb and put TV - FREE TO GOOD HOME - IT WORKS on it. It'll be gone before morning.

You could just put them in the yard with a big price sign on a Friday morning about 7 a.m.
