Isn't platinum a strategic metal like silver? What makes you think gold will overtake platinum??

I say that in pure speculation just because platinum hasnt always been desirable and in a real crisis I wonder if people might abandon the notion of its monetary value.

In fact, many counterfeits of gold plated platinum coins were passed of in the Spanish colonial era. Why? Again, platinum was not a desirable metal.

Of course this is hear say on my part but I dont own any platinum because I dont think it makes a beautiful coin.

If i had to choose between a freshly minted silver coin and a platinum coin based solely on beauty, I would choose the silver coin every time.

I think it is certainly possible and likely to happen.. The economy is getting worse daily and people are already 'fleeing' into gold and silver.

Most people don't consider platinum like you already said. This is, in my opinion, because it is quite a 'recent' metal. I think I read somewhere that it was an unknown metal before the 1500s. Even today some people don't know what platinum is.

It is a rare and precious metal but the history of gold and silver goes back much further. (thousands of years) Therefore people have more confidence in gold and silver.

av here...I have been watching the two for a long time. Platinum and Palladium are second tier rare metals.

Gold and Silver had been traditionally trading as commodities up until recently

Its gonna happen, this year for sure imho

platinum is much more useful in industry than gold.

we use it catalytically to make expensive polymers where i work.

in small amounts.

By the way, that chart for platinum is looking sickly. If and that is a big if, the markets were to take a serious plunge, gold would over take platinum by leaps and bounds. I'll bet money on it. When i made this post platinum was $300 an oz above gold. Today it came close to just $100.

Perhaps I'm being cynical..but the corporate elites of this world have collective had the majority control/ownership of gold for many decades..but they are now ramping up it's values up to dump and maximise profit (when they sell). Their aim is the final land a resource grab...for when they crash the banking and economic monetary systems.

after that only control and security of land, food and water ..will matter.

Sitting on gold will be a fools errand..so remember when to get out before the last of the manufacture economic big bubbles burst. They did it to real estate, commodities and so precious materials in the only one left to screw us with .. so take care out there.
