Carpenter Bees - oooh I hate the staring bastards!
Anyone else overrun with these around the garden this year?

They don't sting but they get right up in your face and have a good look at you.

Re: Carpenter Bees - oooh I hate the staring bastards!
When I was a kid I used to catch these to freak people out.

Yeah you can catch the white headed ones. The females I think have black heads, and the CAN sting. But it is the males you encounter the most. They have a white scale between their eyes for some reason, and they can't sting, but they will try to pinch you, but it doesn't hurt.

One time I squeezed one and noticed that it sort of spit up nectar. It didn't hurt the bee, because I just kind of squeezed it a little bit on the abdomen.

When you think about it, honey is just bee vomit anyway. So I figured I'd try it before it sat around and became honey. It was good, tasted more flowery.

Sounds gross, but I was a kid. If you want to know what the nectar out of the flowers in your yard is like, you could never gather a spoonful of it, but a bee can.
I dare you to do this.
