NOT ONE intelligent reply to this scene. IF there had been animals in that area that were rabbid, he could not know if this squirrel was rabbid too, as it kept advancing toward him. His ONLY option, other than allowing himself to be BITTEN, was to kill it.

Apparently a stupid teacher called the cops, telling them there was a rabid squirrel threatening the children.

Then when the cop showed up, they expected him to cuddle with it or something?

If they didn't want to kill the thing, why did they call the cops? Normal response would have been to just shoot it, or stomp on it, not waste the pepper spray.

Sure looked like the squirrel had been tamed by kids giving it food all the time, then it had no fear of humans.

Think about this...why would a cop show up, and not animal control? And even when a cop does show up, it's not their duty to fuck up tiny little animals. He easily could have told everyone to go inside, or ask for a box to put over the little guy. This is ridiculous.

Yeah, I just read the news report, they did call because the squirrel was "supposedly" acting nuts (haha). Still - the cop should have asked everyone to leave the scene instead of hiding 4 feet behind him (mistake #1). Then, not waiting for animal control to arrive was mistake #2, unless he was willing to put a box or other form of containment over the squirrel. If it did indeed have rabies, they would want to keep the brain for testing, and shooting it might destroy that, so he PEPPER SPRAYS it? If the squirrel was truly neurological pepper spraying it would do nothing except blind it, which could just make matters worse. This guy is a douche. I've picked up injured squirrels with my bare hands. And rabies is not fatal when you know you have it, scared of a little needle? And officers can and should be vaccinated for rabies anyway (yes, there is a vaccine, I have had it since I used to be vet tech and it was required). You still need shots afterward for safe measure but it exists.

I'm with you on this issue. Officer Davis shouldn't be ridiculed, he's a gawt damn American hero! You don't pussyfoot around when it comes to deadly diseases!

A federal court has determined that in New London, Connecticut, the police were justified in denying employment to an applicant who was too smart to be a policeman.

The Atlanta Mobile Register writes "Police throughout the country should be enraged, because the policy at issue in this case feeds the unfortunate stereotype of the "dumb cop." For that matter, the citizens of New London, Conn., should be enraged, too, because it is their police department that is ensuring that the officers who serve the public are of only average intelligence. The policy is inane.

"The case began when Robert Jordan, a 49-year-old college graduate, applied for the New London police force. When he took the entrance exam, he scored 33 points - which indicates an IQ of about 125. But the department only considers candidates who score between 20 and 27, with 20 representing an IQ of about 100, which is supposed to be average.

"The department's theory is that those who score too high could get bored with police work and leave soon after receiving costly training.

"Mr. Jordan sued, saying that he was the victim of illegal discrimination. Two federal courts have now refused to uphold his claim, though, saying that because the same standards were applied to all applicants, no illegal discrimination occurred. The courts also ruled that even though the policy might be unwise - we would say flat-out stupid - it was at least arguably a rational way to reduce expensive job turnover."
