If unanticipated events occur that make it necessary to change this time, another public notice will be issued. The gradual raising of the gates will protect Winnipeg while keeping river levels south of the floodway inlet at or below natural levels. In accordance with floodway operating rules, the horn will be sounded at the inlet control structure at 8:30 a.m., one half-hour before operation of the gates. "Investigation revealed that the man had attempted to cross a flooded portion of road in the rural municipality of De Salaberry when his vehicle left the roadway and became submerged," police said in a news release.
