It's only that very recently has mankind had the technology to document and visually record such phenomena, and as we get pictures of things that weren't visually recordable only 10 years ago, they automatically think doom. This, despite the fact the same things were happening 10, 20, 30, 40 years ago, just not possible to record, see or document.
