Re: WTF: Loud birds chirping at night?
I have been hearing birds at night lately too. I posted this on another thread last night:

It's 3:30 am where I am (MN) and the birds are chirping loudly right now! So weird, sounds just like sunrise! Wow, one just did a very LOUD "tweet tweet!". Now they are doing all these very melodic and excited sounding chirping, just like the happy sounds they make on a sunny afternoon, then suddenly one will do this very high-pitched, intense, sort of "twirly" sounding long chirp. And we are due for thunderstorms in a few hours!

I have actually been hearing birds chirping (loudly & several of them) late at night and in the middle of the night lately. I went to the grocery store the other night at about 12:30 am (I'm a night-owl, hence the name, lol) and as I'm getting out of my car and while walking to the door, I hear several birds chirping very loudly! It sounded more like what you would hear at around 5:00 - 5:30 am just before the sun rises and they begin chirping. I have heard them several times prior to that night as well.

Someone else here at GLP said they had noticed the same thing and they were told that was normal. I have always been a night-owl and I used to work 3rd shift so I have always stayed up late/all night. I have never heard birds chirping at night like this, outside of the very occasional single chirp by a lone birdie. I now hear this quite often! And it's getting more intense, more loud and more often!

What IS going on??? I think the birds KNOW and sense something!

Re: WTF: Loud birds chirping at night?
I live in a city in the Puget Sound region of Washington State, and have been in this house for almost seven years now.

In June and July, the birds often wake me up early--starting around 4:00, and getting really noisy by 4:30. At the summer solstice the days are really long at this latitude, and at that hour the sun's just about to come up. I've lived in this region for 17 years now, and that's part of the normal annual cycle--the goddamned birds wake me up, and I roll over and go back to sleep.

But for the last three weeks (that I've noticed), I've heard them singing at 3:00AM, sometimes a little earlier. Not a lot of them, but any birds singing that early in the morning this early in the year is just plain weird.

Yeah I hear the birds as well late at night. The cats are in heat too. I hear them meowing all day and see them humping each other all over the place.

Re: WTF: Loud birds chirping at night?
Roosters crow and birds chirp when the sun rises. I see this crowing and chirping as an alarm clock
telling everyone "time to get up!". Could it be that the birds are telling us in effect, to "stay awake"?

In other words, "stay alert and aware!"

Animals can be dumb, but overall I think animals are generally VERY smart! They are still in touch
with their instincts! They are a very good early warning system to us humans!

I don't think the chirping night birds are confused, I think they know something is up and are trying
to warn each other... and possibly US!

hf Thank you birdies! hf

I live in SC and I own chickens. The rooster starts crowing around 2:30 to 5:00am. I also have birds chirping outside my home. Strange days.

This is freaking me out...

The title of this thread just brought back a lot of memories of the last 6-8 weeks, waking up at 1:30-3 am and hearing birds chirping as if it were at LEAST 4 if not a bit later.

I hope to God it's all some sort of coincidence, or just a natural fluctuation.

It FEELS very odd, though.

Re: WTF: Loud birds chirping at night?
I just went outside to take a listen and I do not hear one bird tonight. It's 3:10 am and I am in Minnesota. I checked about 30 minutes ago and none then either. I see that others are hearing them tonight though.

It would be interesting to keep track of who is hearnig these night birds on what night and in what location. Apparently it's not just a US phenomenon. Anyone else interested in keeping track of this occurance should come to this thread nightly and post if they are hearing the birds.

I know some may think it's silly, but I think it's highly interesting! Most everyone here agrees this is something new and very unusual. I think it would be cool if we could identify some sort of a pattern with this. I will post the MN "night bird status" every night I am online.

looks like my post got deleted from this thread. i simply stated i was from georgia and figured this was the only state not affected by this conspiracy of bird chirpings. they wake up around 5am just like everything else. you people are either hearing crickets (they come out this time of year) or frogs.

Mockingbirds are the only birds I know of that sing at night at 2 am. There are many times that I've had to shut my window and turn a fan on to block out their noise.

The birds you hear could be whippoorwills.

This is the first spring/early summer I've heard their calls in several years.

Welcome back! They are large night birds.

Re: WTF: Loud birds chirping at night?
At about 2:00 am I heard birds chirping outside. They seemed stressed (best way I can describe them) like they were arguing with each other. It was warm out too and the sky was very bright which could have been from the nearby city lights.

I've done a little research online and most posts say its just because birds are mating right now. One site said the baby birds are known to keep the mom birds awake.

But I'm 30, been outdoors most of my life, and I've never heard birds up at 2 am like this before, ever.

Definitely weird. Why aren't the birds roosting at night? With all the EQ activity I've been wondering if it might be related?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1307376

I have noticed that too. They start around 2 am now here in Michigan.I have pet birds,I am avian certified and I know a bit about birds. My birds sleep right through the night after their cages are covered at bed time. The birds outside must not be sleeping much if at all to be chirping from 2 am to sunrise. If you consider the sun is up until about 9 or so this time of year.Birds sleep when it's dark. That's what they do.As to why they are chirping all night long in the dark is a good question and one I myself would like the answer to.Not normal behavior at all.I noticed this a few weeks ago when hubby and I were watching a movie late at night.I aid"wth?birds are chirping outside,do I hear birds?".
This isn't a single distressed bird looking for love, this sounds to me like all the birds at once going about things as if it were day time .

Re: WTF: Loud birds chirping at night?
It's 3:30 am here in MN and the birds are chirping away! And it's very dark here. They are so loud I can hear them through my closed windows. I think they started awhile ago but not sure because I was busy typing a messsage. I thought I heard them but didn't get up to look til now. They did not chirp during the night last night or the night before (I'm keeping track to see if any other strange happening occur on the days they chirp at night).

So many people have heard birds chirping at night and all agree - this is definitely not normal. This may be a clue as to what is going on!

I Googled "why do birds chirp" and found this explanation of why they chirp in the morning:

"The reason that birds chirp in the morning is that the resonance of the rising sun bounces of the earth creating a sound with a frequency to low to be heard by the human ear, the birds simply sing in echo of this Earth Song."

[link to wiki.answers.com]

I think that this case of birds chirping loudly at night as if it were morning has nothing to do with the Earth's vibration, but with some other low-frequency sound that is going on in our world. The birds can hear it and they think the sun is beginning to rise, therefore they begin chirping. Whatever this sound is, my guess is that it's related to all the other weird stuff going in our world right now!

Any scientific people out there know what the effects of constant or intermittent periods of low-frequency sound does to living creatures and matter?

This is all too weird!

Re: WTF: Loud birds chirping at night?
I live in Texas, in a small town with a lot of farm land around. I am a nite owl and I have also noticed this strange behavior from birds. I hear them right now and they have been chirping for about 3 hours already, it is around 2am now. If I didn't know better I would think it is early morning. There are roosters in the area and they do their call at all hours of the night. I do know that we have many Mocking Birds and Swallows in the area.
Sometimes I see many acres of land covered with all kinds of birds, like a big meeting, not for migration purposes.

Thanks for posting this thread.

I started a thread about this the other night.

1 am the birds started to chirp like crazy here in Central Calif. They kept on until 3am.

The next night, the same thing, and just about the same times too. So very strange.

It was during a full and very bright moon. I don't know if that had anything to do with it but I have never ever heard birds chirping at 1 am before. So, yes very strange indeed.

The birdies have been driving me bananas the past few nights. They start chirping around midnight and don't stop until 3 or 4! I've lived in the same place in Beverly Hills for several years now and if I remember correctly, this is the first time birds have had little midnight concerts...so bizarre. I thought I was taking crazy pills until I googled it and found this thread.
