Thank you for posting OP. I also turn 40 this August. I feel the same way sometimes. I am an athiest but I do think it is natural and healthy to be spirit minded without the dogma that man has created... To be at peace with nature and contemplate why things happen to us and how we can learn from it is empowering.
There certainly is no room for meanspiritedness if you want to be at peace with yourself.
