There are certainly movies about his life, which are all based on hearsay.

There are NO accounts of jesus, written while he was on earth.

"Thou shalt not kill" does not apply to murder of one's own kind only, but to all living beings; and this Commandment was inscribed in the human breast long before it was proclaimed from Sinai. ~Leo Tolstoy

You have heard that it was said, "You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy."
But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.
For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have?

Powerful imagery and sentimentality, but still a work of fiction that may or may not be partially based on true events.

Mel Gibson's film was a powerful experience, but painful for me to watch.

A tremendous film made in the 1960s by a great Italian director Pier Paulo Pasolini, used the dialogue right from the Gospel of St. Mathew for everything spoken in the film.
It was called The Gospel According to St. Matthew".

Its in black and white, but it is also an amazing film.
If you get a chance to see it on video or at some art movie house, don't miss it. It's in Italian but its so visually powerful that you probably won't mind that even if you don't know Italian. There are subtitles of course.
