Re: My Neighbor Trapping our Cats
We had a POS neighbor doing that. What a monster. All he needed to do was put mothballs about.

My kids caught him trapping a very beautiful black cat from across the street, and I went out and let him know I was watching, so he didn't get ours. Except the ones he did get had been used to being in our yard. After he killed the others, we became infested with mice and voles.

Cats are really very useful and beautiful animals.

Re: My Neighbor Trapping our Cats
I do my best to keep them inside, once in a while one gets out. My god, cats can smell wet cat food a mile away...you are calling them to your yard buy doing this. And I have man, thank you very much! He happens to love the cats more then I do!! We don't complain about their yapping damn dog, we are nice neighbors.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 897447

Nobody wants your damn cats crapping in their yard. What makes cat owners think it's okay that their animals go around spraying everything in the neighborhood? Cats are special? Screw that. You're lucky you don't live in my area - where cats get shot and nobody cares.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1047766

I'm lucky and GLAD I don't live live in your area.

cat owners are armed

and a husband

my husband also loves the cats

i dont like all the snot brat little kids running around but i tolerate it

learn to be a more tolerant person

no one gives two shits about your perfectly groomed, highly toxic, green lawn except you

i dare a mother f'er to ever harm one of my animals........dare!!!

people who wish harm to animals are psycho's

almost all psycho's have a history of harming small animals

something is not right with someone who inflicts harm on animals

seriously messed up

What do we do? They are using fancy feast in the trap. They said their dog is eating cat crap and it's giving him stinky breath, that's the reason.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 897447

I live in Vegas and we used to have a cat hoarder that lived a few doors down. Animal control went to her house and pulled 65 cats and 4 dogs out due to inhumane conditions. You could smell her house from a half a mile away.Code enforcement also came to inspect the house. They condemned the house due to all of the cat feces and urine piled feet high inside, and evicted the owner. Then tore the house down to the ground few months later. My wife and I were both sick for months from the smell coming from the house before it was torn down. Alot of lung and throat problems. Then my dogs started getting sick from eating cat poop in our yard. That stopped 29 days ago when we bought a cat trap. We set it in our yard and baited it with wet food. So far we have caught 22 cats and had animal control come pick them up. So that is a total of about 87 cats from one house. I love all animals, but we had to do this to protect us and our own animals. We were tired of all of us being sick.So if you own a bunch of cats that run loose in a neighborhood, you should now how the rest of us "good people" think.

animal hoarding is not safe for the animal, the owner or the surrounding area.

I forgot to mention that every cat we have trapped so far has had hair loss problems, respiratory issues as well as crusty eyes and noses. Even after they were trapped they still ate all of the food and drank all of the water we provided. So the way we see it,is that we gave them a good meal,a big drink of fresh water and then sent them to animal control where they have a better chance of survival than in a desert neighborhood with no food or water to speak of.

They are not deadly traps people, most animal controldepts will lend you one for free, they catch them alive and then you take them to the pound where hopefully they are euthanised before the irresponsible owner notices the filthy thing missing. Of, they just get another cat and the cycle continues! the circle of life, how profound...

Re: My Neighbor Trapping our Cats
True story...

Our neighbor about 15 years ago had a dog that was a real menace to everybody. We lived in a small community way out in the country and everybody was armed like crazy. Everybody was trying to blow this dog away..

The Browns down the road had a chicken coop, and this shithead Terrier got in and starting killing all the chickens by shaking them to death...

Brad Brown had a 30/06 and was blasting away trying to take the dog out - and this dog was running flat out with tufts of dirt flying from the bullets after it...

The owners of Jake thought he was the sweetest nicest dog since bambi..

My old man drove bus, and one day he didn't empty the garbage bin at the back, and who was on the bus when he got in to drive it in the morning - Jake...

So he simply closed the door and went on his route. About 17 km south down by the River, Jake got dropped off...

An intensive hunt was mounted by the distraught owners of Jake, and rumors had circulated that this hungry starving dog was wandering down by the river...

See people are humane, cause the real point is!

- What about those poor chickens!!

Re: My Neighbor Trapping our Cats
But about those bird killing feces buried under the peas in your garden kitties...

It's totally in the right of the property owner to humanely trap them. Set the fines at like $300 / a capture.

Can't watch your cat, then pay pay pay...

Remember.

A. Your not looking after you cat. The people who have traps have done you a great favor they saved its life from someone far less scrupulous who WILL antifreeze the cat, or an owl will come buy eat the cat and shit out a fur ball pellet of what was kitty...

B. Take responsibility for your animals. Just because you love kitties doesn't mean your neighbor does. Your neighbor might love birds, and be a bird owner...

C. I don't want some cat burying cat feces in my carrots. That is extremely rude of you as owners to think that is ok.. How would you feel if someones dog came and shit on your strawberries?

D. Respect your neighbors right to not have to deal with your cats - keep them on your own property, and if your carrots taste funny...

Go to the pet shop and buy mice, many, MANY healthy breeding mice. Then release them in your neighbors yard, real close to an open window. They'll be asking to borrow your precious felines in no time.

Should that fail...burn down their home. ;)

I didn't think your cat would go over there if your neighbour had a dog..

Ask your neighbour to swap the cat food for the hose. A spray of water won't harm your cat but will hopefully deter it eventually.

Also dig out a patch of your yard for your cat to use as a dirt box. Remove the smelly bits regulaly or got a small portable dirtbox for kitty to use

Re: My Neighbor Trapping our Cats
Ok here is our game plan

1. Keep the cats inside as much as possible.

2. Change the cat food to something without molasses, a kind poster let me know this is what attracts dogs to eating cat poo.

3. Get some sand and make big litter box way out back, so if they do get out, they will hopefully go there and stay in out of the neighbors yard.

4. Start feeding my cats wet cat food again. We had stopped because they were gaining weight. I think they miss it and are going next door for it.

5. Go over to my neighbors and let her know I'm doing all of the above to keep them out of her yard.

I want to be a good neighbor and don't want problems, stress over this whole thing, I hope this works.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 897447

Keep your damn cats on your own property!

Leash laws apply to dogs AND CATS!

I have a trap and I WILL trap your cat if it comes in my yard.

Millions, and millions, and millions of songbirds are killed each year by the 'domesticated' cat, and I am tired of it.

It is PERFECTLY LEGAL to trap unwanted animals on your own property.

I guess the nice thing would be to take them to the local pound; if the owners care enough -- which they don't or they wouldn't let them roam -- they can pay the fine and get them out.

Then I'll trap them again.

If it's the same cat repeatedly, it gets a nice ride to the city 70 miles away and set free at some junk yard.

Problem solved.

However, it many area's it is illegal to have your cats off-leash (strange, I know!).
After some trouble with my own neighbours (and my cat's were on a yard leash, the neighbours came into my yard), I finally had to just keep them inside for they're own safety.

Good luck OP, hope your kitties stay safe! hf

If you love something SET IT FREE. Quality of life not quantity.
(and there was a comment about squiriels and other wild animals being free)

no problem, then !!

if they are kept in your house, then they are your PET, and they are absolutely safe.

if you SET IT FREE, it is FERAL, and
IT IS NOT YOUR PET.
so if it lives or dies or goes to the pound,
IT IS NOT YOUR CONCERN, as it is not your cat.

THE ONLY PROBLEM IS;
THE DUMBASSES JUST CAN'T DO IT !!

THEY 'JUST HAVE TO' PUT FOOD AND WATER OUTSIDE,
so the outside cats are 'theirs'.

THEIR HOUSE BECOMES A 'CAT HOUSE', WHERE EVERY STRAY IS WELCOME, as well as all the cats that are housecats, but get 'let out' for the night.

a cat freak said;

I would take in a stray cat in a second. Have done so many times..

IF, and ONLY IF, you can take care of it PROPERLY, that is a good thing.

IF YOU CAN'T TAKE CARE OF IT,
PROPERLY,
TAKING IT IN IS NOT A GOOD THING.

(PROPERLY = keep it indoors only)

a cat freak said;
spray it with a hose.

TRIED IT, IT DOESN'T WORK.

Free cats is a bad idea.

Cats tend to get ran down, partially eaten by dogs....

The neighbor's cat was (past tense) and outdoor cat. Until it climbed under the hood of the neighbor's car. The neighbor went and started the car, badly maimed the cat in the process. Had to have the cat put down.

Lots of road kill consists of cats around here as well.

Its not safe being a cat who runs out of the yard and gets into places no dog would want to go.

Where do you get this "mile away" thing from? We use wet food because the cats need to be caught, and that is the best way to get them into a cage. They are sick. They are making my family including my dogs sick. They are pissing and shitting all over my front and back yard and it needs to stop. If you know cats so well then you know that they have a certain teritory and they roam it daily or nightly. My house is in their teritory and they used to come and rip all of my trash bags open and eat whatever they find. Leaving me with trash all over the place,on top of the piss and shit in my yard. Now with the wet food they go in the trap, then off to animal control. No more problems for me and my family.I just caught another cat last night. That makes two dozen sick and skinny cats caught so far. If you can't see that we are doing the right thing then you are nuts. I forgot to mention why we started trapping the cats besides the problems I already stated. My dogs killed one in our backyard, and that is something I never want to see again.I don't put my dogs in your backyard, don't let your cats roam in mine.
