TheSecret User ID: 385114 United States 04/15/2011 05:47 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I cut my television/cable completely on Saturday. I never watched it very often, but will admit I do miss being able to turn on CNN while having a meal. Most everything can be found online however. I still pay the fifty a month for Internet and dropped the fifty a month phone down to basic for Ten dollars. Television while great for some is only a distraction to others. Decide what you want..what you REALLY want and realize that acting and thinking in a certain way will help get you there while effective action even more so. Having distractions and negative thoughts from television ect, will interfere with most and there visions that they are working on..don't let it do that! Become what you are..what you are meant to be! Focus...be happy, thankful and live with gratitude without the mind numbing distractions of negative people in your inner circles or things like television. REJECT that in which does not vibrate in harmony with your vision or plan. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1319466 United States 04/15/2011 06:06 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I have lived a good part of my life without TV. You get used to the peaceful I-can-hear-myself-think atmosphere. An I refuse to pay for cable. Why are we paying for what is already commercials. And I never would turn it on and watch it all night no matter what is on when I had it. I would turn it off and go do something else when the show was over. So recently my other half, who has always had TV, said lets shut the cable off. There is nothing on and it is a waste of time. I guess he got sick of me leaving the room to do something else while he continued to blob out on the couch. To me that is a total waste of time. It is not interesting. I never watch TV news, would only watch the travel channel, history channel, House and NCIS. Why pay 150 a month for that? The amazing thing is when you give back the box people look at you strange and ask what are you going to do with your life now. Cook, read books, play music, do art, garden, work on my home business, etc. etc and hang out on GLP of course. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1334851 United States 04/15/2011 07:56 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Haven't had tv for about 3 years now. For the kids.. that's good. No more "zoning out" in front of stupid stuff.. and that was just the public channels we had. Don't even miss that. Although .. at times I did use the tv for a sort of "company" to feel like there were people in the room. Now it's just quiet... all the time. Hardly ever listen to music either. Nothing to play it on really. It's just quiet.. all the time. All I hear is the aquarium waterfall noise.. it's like a library or a temple in here. |
~Sir John~ User ID: 636332 United Kingdom 04/15/2011 07:59 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | We've been without a TV for four years now. I used to have chronic depression, but mostly it's gone. When we watch TV at a motel on vacation, we notice how the shows string you along to get you to keep watching for the next big thing. Glad to be rid of it. Internet's going soon too. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1342159Yeah and then they show you what is "coming up" which takes away from the whole point of watching a show from start to conclusion. It's like we already know how that particular segment will work out now..what is the point??? That and the brainwashing adverts.. mental torture. |

Our lives feel less hectic and a bit more serene. More time for projects, hobbies, ourselves and others without all the nonsense babbling at us. You are right about the "stringing you along" for the rest of the story or the next story. It is always so elusive, next really means at the end of the program. Hated that! |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1292002 United States 04/15/2011 08:08 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I have been without TV for a month now. It took me two weeks just to break the feeling of being addicted. I would watch it a lot but not really like a lot of what I was seeing. I would just keep watching anyway so that I could see the good parts. Then I wouldn't notice the bad parts so aften like I was growing used to them. I think it does dumb you down and corrupt you. One problem with TV is that you are sort of participating in the lives of others while they are not participating in yours. It makes you feel very lonely and cut off. It is like you are wasting your time because they don't care what you think of them or even aknowledge you. If you read or go on the Net, that is also one sided but at least you can do it at your own pace and direction. People have been addicted to reading, known as bookworms, and they also get addicted to the Net. Somehow I think TV is the worst though. |

kicktothehead User ID: 1296878 United States 04/15/2011 08:17 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I own a TV but rarely watch. At least on the internet my brain is working while I read. When I turn on the TV I lose focus and drift off. Even movies which I used to love I can't sit through them much anymore. Weird. This all changed for me in the past year and a half. |
