Eruption Begins at Eurasia’s Highest Volcano in Russia
PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, August 27 (RIA Novosti) - Eurasia's highest volcano, Klyuchevskoi, on the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia's Far East, began erupting, Russia’s Skanex research and development center said in a statement on Tuesday.
According to the statement, powerful explosions were registered in the upper part of the volcanic neck. The volcano spews ash some 200-300 meters (650-985 feet) high in the air, while gas and vapor emissions occur within an interval of three to five minutes.
Apart from powerful mud flows that could form from ice thawing on the volcano's sides, the current eruption of Klyuchevskoi does not pose a threat to locals. Experts, however, say that the eruption could pose a threat to tourists visiting the volcano and local air traffic.
Last time the volcano erupted was in 2010, but its most powerful eruption in the recent years was registered between January and May of 2005. Following that eruption, the volcano "sank" by 50 meters (about 165 feet), from 4,800 meters (about 16,000 feet) to the current 4,750 meters (15,845 feet).

Massive US East Coast Disaster Warned Near As Dolphin Deaths Explode
The Total Collapse - A chilling new report prepared for President Putin by the Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM) on top-secret NSA intelligence documents obtained by the Federal Security Services (FSB) from heroic whistleblower Edward Snowden reveals that US Federal officials in the area of the United States designated as FEMA Region III [Washington D.C., Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia] are “quietly preparing” for what these documents state is an “imminent catastrophic threat” related to a previously unknown fault zone many scientific experts fear could see this area being destroyed by volcanic, earthquake and massive tsunamis as early as this coming October.

According to this EMERCOM report, US officials became alarmed when on 23 August 2011 a massive 5.8 magnitude earthquake centered in Virginia shook the entire US East Coast and was described as the largest quake of its kind to strike east of the Mississippi River in all of recorded American history.

A report prepared by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) on the 23 August 2011 Virginia earthquake was partially released this past November (2012), EMERCOM says, with a warning that the Eastern coastal regions of the United States were, indeed, facing a threat of major tsunamis, but the documents provided by Snowden reveal a much grimmer picture of what could possibly be about to occur.

The much expanded, and designated top-secret, USGS report contained in Snowden’s documents, EMERCOM states, shows that the 23 August 2011 Virginia earthquake shattered a previously unknown fault zone extending from Richmond Virginia outwards into the Atlantic Ocean region and stretching upwards into the Chesapeake Bay area which is the largest estuary in the United States.

Even worse, this EMERCOM says about this top-secret USGS report, is that American scientists are now blaming the devastation occurring in the Chesapeake Bay (which has seen 200,000 acres of oyster reefs reduced to about 36,000 in the past nearly 15 years) on “explosive volcanic out gassing” rapidly growing in this undersea area; a situation when combined with the still ongoing catastrophe in the Gulf of Mexico caused the United States this past week to declare its first “fishery disaster” in modern times.

This EMERCOM report further states that USGS scientists are, likewise, blaming the explosion of dolphin deaths this year in US eastern coastal regions on this volcanic out-gassing too, and which according to the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), in Virginia alone, there were 45 dolphin deaths in July, compared to a historic average of only seven for July.

Most concerning to USGS scientists in their top-secret report, EMERCOM experts say, is the new evidence revealed this past June (2013) by the Journal Science proving the reality of what have been called “earthquake booms” which have long been associated with seismic activity, and as we can, in part, read from their article titled “Boom! Super Seismo-Sonic Earthquakes Are Real”:

“The inner workings of bizarre and potentially dangerous earthquakes that break the seismic sound barrier have now for the first time been confirmed in laboratory experiments with real rocks, report scientists in today’s issue of the journal Science.”

3 more dolphins found dead off New Jersey coast
STONE HARBOR, N.J. - August 26, 2013 (WPVI) -- The bodies of three more dolphins have washed up along the New Jersey shore, bringing the statewide total to 71.

The Asbury Park Press reports that officials Sunday found dead dolphins at Island Beach State Park, Stone Harbor and an area off the bay in Strathmere.

On Saturday, officials found two dead dolphins in Sea Girt and Brigantine.

STORY: 2 more dolphins found dead on NJ beaches
The senior technician with the Brigantine chapter of the Marine Mammal Stranding Center, Jay Pagel, says it's the "same thing that's been happening" since July 9.
From New Jersey south to Virginia, more than 230 dolphin deaths have been reported dead. A precise cause for the deaths is still unknown.

The deaths have been declared an "unusual mortality event" by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

What are called supershear earthquakes are strange events in which the rupturing fault breaks faster than certain seismic waves can travel, creating a sort of seismic mach cone that fires out the end of a fault’s rupture zone -- the part of the fault that breaks loose allowing two rock surfaces to jerk past each other. That cone and the waves that follow can cause inordinately severe shaking, out of proportion to the earthquake's magnitude.

Top 20 Reasons We're Not as Powerful as We Think
“It’s like the (seismic) waves are propagating along and all of a sudden it steps on the accelerator,” explained Eric Dunham, an assistant professor and seismological researcher at Stanford University who has done modeling work on supershear waves.

The waves behind the weird phenomenon are called shear waves, which normally are relatively slow seismic waves that move over the surface in a manner similar to ocean waves. These are the waves that are felt as rolling and shaking motions after the initial shock of normal earthquakes. The initial shock is another, much faster, kind of wave that behaves more like pressure waves that make sound in the air.

In a supershear earthquake, however, the shear waves are created very quickly when a long fault, like the San Andreas, breaks loose faster than the speed shear waves normally travel. When this happens the shear waves mach cone is created that can reach the same speed as the pressure waves, explained the paper’s lead author, François Passelègue of the Geology Laboratory at École Normale Supérieure in Paris, France.

Biplane Could Go Supersonic Without the Boom
“The main additional hazard due to supershear earthquakes is that there are two big wave arrivals,” Passelègue told Discovery News. To someone riding out such a quake, the first thing to arrive would be the sharp pressure wave, but instead of the rolling shear waves following it, the powerful supershear mach cone would arrive and shake the ground in a direction parallel to the fault zone that created it. Then, soon after, a second shear wave would hit with ground motions at right angles to the fault zone. “This sudden change in the direction of the dominant ground motions is dramatic for buildings.”

Luckily, supershear quakes appear to be very rare, said Passelègue, with only a few ever recorded. And faults like the San Andreas in the very populous California are prime candidates for this sort of suped-up seismic event.

“The other issue is whether this happens only at very large earthquakes,” said Dunham. The success of Passelègue’s experiment, on a scale of centimeters, suggests otherwise. A moderately strong quake of a magnitude between 6 and 7 ought to be able to produce supershear waves, he said. And that is not a very unusual earthquake size along the San Andreas.

To report the discovery of the new bird flu outbreak is the Emilia Romagna region, stressing that in Turkey-farming of Portomaggiore are already "taken safety measures" and "soon will begin the culling of the heads". The same safety net health authorities to prevent the spread of the avian influenza virus has highlighted a new outbreak of infection from avian influenza, underlines the region Emilia, explaining that the new outbreak involves an 18,000 breeding turkeys in Portomaggiore, Ferrara, which was an abnormal mortality of birds. The cattery is located not far from the site of Ostellato, the first to be hit by avian flu. Specialist examinations conducted by the Forlì branch of the Istituto zooprofilattico, confirmed by the national reference Centre for avian influenza in Padova, on samples taken on the farm, have confirmed the presence of the virus H7 type.

If anyone has a good look at the moon tonight can you tell me if you see anything off on the lower right hand side by the dark shadow. I am seeing a second dark circular blotch which I have never seen before. I am a moon watcher in general, but my eyesight is not always the best so thought I just was seeing something due to the glare. I had my friend and adult daughter take a look and they are seeing it too. They both were a little freaked out and they are not GLPers or doomers in any way or form. I have some high powered military binoculars but can't find them. I guess they are still packed from the move. Very frustrating because I would like to get a closer look regardless if it is normal or not.

The Farmers' Almanac is using words like "piercing cold," "bitterly cold" and "biting cold" to describe the upcoming winter. And if its predictions are right, the first outdoor Super Bowl in years will be a messy "Storm Bowl."

The 197-year-old publication that hits newsstands Monday predicts a winter storm will hit the Northeast around the time the Super Bowl is played at MetLife Stadium in the Meadowlands in New Jersey. It also predicts a colder-than-normal winter for two-thirds of the country and heavy snowfall in the Midwest, Great Lakes and New England.

"We're using a very strong four-letter word to describe this winter, which is C-O-L-D. It's going to be very cold," said Sandi Duncan, managing editor.

Based on planetary positions, sunspots and lunar cycles, the almanac's secret formula is largely unchanged since founder David Young published the first almanac in 1818.

Modern scientists don't put much stock in sunspots or tidal action, but the almanac says its forecasts used by readers to plan weddings and plant gardens are correct about 80 percent of the time.

This is the third story I've posted about this phenomenon in the last 3 weeks. What's up with that?

Strange Lights are not UFO's Just Atmospheric Red Sprites
Is it a bird, is it a plane, is it a UFO? Strange lights in the sky are being closely watched by atmospheric scientists.

Dubbed red sprites by researchers, these dancing fairies-of-the-clouds are sometimes glimpsed as blood-red bursts of light in the shape of jellyfish.

At other times, they appear as trumpet-shaped blue emissions, called blue jets. Like the most elusive of nymphs, however, red sprites and blue jets come out on only one occasion: during severe thunderstorms.

Although sporadically reported for years by airline pilots, only in the past decade or two has there been enough evidence to convince atmospheric scientists to investigate the phenomenon.

Biological Hazard in USA on Tuesday, 27 August, 2013 at 03:38 (03:38 AM) UTC.
Description
A canine believed to be a wolf chomped the head of a 16-year-old boy who was camping on Lake Winnibigoshish in north-central Minnesota, the Department of Natural Resources announced Monday. The teenager survived what the DNR called an "extremely rare" attack, but a wolf with a jaw deformity was trapped and killed in the area early Monday, said Tom Provost, regional manager for the DNR's enforcement division in Grand Rapids. Rabies test results on the animal are expected Tuesday or Wednesday, he told reporters. The DNR has no records of another serious injury or fatal wolf attack on a human in Minnesota before, he said. The only two recorded wolf attack fatalities in North America in the last decade were in northern Canada and Alaska. Assuming it's the same animal, Provost said, the wolf's jaw deformity is probably the reason it attacked the youth. While the male wolf was a normal 75 pounds, he said it would have had difficulty killing prey and likely was scavenging for food around the campground. Other campers told DNR officers an animal had bitten through their tents that night, puncturing an air mattress, and one camper said he saw a wolf near his campsite with similar colors and markings to the animal that attacked the teenager.
