ChiaPet User ID: 52630955 United States 01/18/2014 01:57 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Hey Everyone, I started my field placement this week and have not been able to hang on GLP as much. I am working with a recovery group at a drug rehab which has been very educational and enlightening. Last year of grad school and it is intense, but also satisfying. Quoting: Vesper33 Anyway, I saw you all were talking about birds and their meaning, and I had something to share. A few days ago I had this strange experience with a bird that left me with warm fuzzies, but also a little perplexed. My boxer chased, or caught and brought to the back door, (not sure which) a bird who then flew into the house. I just looked up as the bird and dog where coming through the back door in the evening. I don't know what kind it was but it looked like all the others around the house. It was huge, as in it was bigger than both my hands if I were to hold it around the chest. Anyway, it freaked out and flew around the house. It hit the wall a couple of times and ended up in the downstairs bathroom which is small. There was blood on the wall and I was worried it would hurt it's wing. I didn't know what to do to get it outside so it would not hurt itself further. I decided to get this net on a pole that we have and try and catch it to carry it outside. I did not think the net would hurt it any further. The bird was by the bloody wall looking at me. So, I stopped, got the dogs out, and had a chat with it. I am sure I looked stupid talking to this bird, but it was the only thing I knew to do. I told it exactly what I was going to do and how in a soft tone and as honestly as I could. It was looking me in the eye as I spoke. Well, I went to put the net on it and it jumped on the metal lip of the net instead of going in it. It perched there and let me back out of the bathroom and cross my house while it was perched. I took it to the back door and walked outside. Once out it flew off into the tree. I am not really a bird person per se, and maybe this was normal behavior for a bird, but it shocked the heck out of me when it went down like that. I swear that bird understood what I was saying to it. I did not think of it as a sign of anything. I was just in awe of what happened. Do you guys have any insight on bird behavior? Should I look at it as a sign of some sort? I know it made me feel really good and I guess the bird is happy too. Lol. That really is enough, but thought I would ask. What a cool story! You must be more of a bird person than realized. You definitely have bird medicine if you can commune with that bird and have it understand! Love it! Animals are the sweet medicine and teach us a lot once we can settle down or get out in nature. Perhaps this particular bird is showing you something about feeling trapped or having a willingness to cross a particular line with the knowing that you are safe in a guided way. I definitely need to get outside more often! Thank you so much for this post! I never thought of that, but it sure hits home. I have been pretty much socially reclusive for the last eight years by choice. My field placements are forcing me back out in the world, and I have had some anxiety about it. It is ironic that my job is counseling people when I myself pulled away from society for awhile. Lol. I love what I am doing and truly hope I will be effective at helping to empower people in need. Anyway, thank you again for bringing this possible explanation to my attention. Even if we will never know, it reminded me to be strong and have faith during this challenging period All Blessings to you and yours!!! You are so welcome! My hat is off to you, Vesper for the courage to step up into a vocation that is out of your old comfort zone!, ~ Matthew 7:16. Ye shall know them by their fruits.
