This one started as a 3.1 and was downgraded. Watching that area...

gasp I never like seeing quakes of any size in that area!

I have. It' close to the undersea volcano.. Little ones don't bother me, it's the bigger ones that do. These little ones can be just some building going on under there..

So do I EarthCries & that quake off of the Oregon Coast didn't do anything to calm my anxiety. Combine that with the recently released information on the....what did they call them again?....'slow strike-slip quakes'?...something like that & how they do NOT release the shallow depth Energy that builds up. I've noticed WA quakes in what I consider to be "strange locations" that lead me to believe that the Cascadia Subduction Zone is currently under an unusually high ammount of stress & it is releasing Energy anywhere it can. I've had a very bad feeling about the Cascadia for months now & would so Love to see a few 4.'ers off of the coast, say 3 or 4 a day, for a week & bleed off that pent up energy slowly & without causing significant problems

I've been watching these quakes in the DODECANESE ISLANDS, GREECE today.
There have been some huge quakes in Greece in the past. A huge quake in 226 BC was the cause of the toppling of the Colossus of Rhodes. Several 8's, 7's and 6 mag over the years.
Here's a list:

Yes, that creeping, slow strike-slip information gave me the willies. And, if I'm not mistaken, I believe the creep has stopped. That in itself is scary.

I posted a thread with an article about this, but can't find it now.
If I remember correctly, it was an article about the Cascadia subduction zone and how geologists were very worried.
Also, don't forget the entire state of Oregon and Washington and California are dotted with active volcanos.

The suns died, no drap proton absorption, which has been a constant for a while, no sunspots and filaments are recycling. It seems so strange even though I expect it. The tec is still somewhat high which is to be expected with a dormant sun.
The problem we're looking at folks is this, we need activity to keep our magnetosphere working on all cylinders. If we get a big pickup in solar activity in a couple weeks like I think we will we're in trouble because our 'shields' will be down, its unfolding right before our eyes!

Note: one thing that has bothered me of late is that our Bz has been south and at times by a big number,we've had ch winds and mild sunspot activity but no proton absorption, none. Usually the smallest coronal hole gives us a small ramp, lately....nothing?

A month ago we has proton absorption everyday to some degree, now we can't find a proton.

a history making event...

how many history, record breaking events does that make for this year??...

Here is another....

Winter 2012-'13 Outlook Headlines:

"This year is totally unique in the 63 years we've been keeping statistics on El Niño. Never before has an El Niño event begun to form in July and August, then quit in mid-September."

Unfortunately, i have come to the conclusion we will lose most of the masses... Sandy has shown us that people can be warned and still will refuse to prepare and do what's necessary to preserve their lives and lives of others. Agreed. The sun has gone more dormant this week than even before. Our last X-flare was on October 22. The sun rotates around in 29 days which would be November 20th. We don't know if this "area" that has been pulling the sun's energy is on a 29 day cycle though.

I have been house painting for several days and dealing with a headache that feels like a solar headache yet there isn't any solar activity so haven't had any down time to go back through and try to figure out what the timing is on this "thing".

Not sure we can since it only just aimed at the eastern limb of the sun on the 22nd. Anyone know of a cycle, or something we can be looking at, that would point to what "it" is, so we can work out a time frame? Heck, if we get another big flare around Nov 20th, that will make it darned close to Dec 21st, lol. Or the first part of Dec when there is major planetary alignment, not sure of the dates on that right now.

A week or so back I mentioned this. It was the first I had heard about it on my local news station when they were giving a new update for the long term winter forecast. They said since El Nino died and now a normal year....it was just too weird to hear it.

El Nino develops when the Pacific ocean gets really warm and La Nina when it is overly cool. So the ocean was really heating up and then cooled off, really? Why? Back in July I was researching to find out if it would be a La or El this year as La usually gives us heavy snow and with our drought was hoping for good news. This is when I saw that it looked like an El was forming but was a little too early to tell for sure. By the end of August it was confirmed that an El had formed though it wasn't a strong one. Then to hear it just shut down?

Two thoughts, either they jumped the gun on this and an El never really formed, only heated up a little. Or, a large amount of cooler water hit the Pacific and shut the El down. It has to be one or the other. If it was cold water - where did it come from?

I love you my angel, you see so much. Its nice to have someone who sees the big picture,or is trying, as am I.
We should see the sun ramp up about the third week of november if my calculations are close, this puts us on a tri mester swing with this energy field. The sun seems to have went soft on us though as backside SS seem dormant.
Maybe our big event is the sun just doesn't meet its polarity flop,it seems its having problems as north and south aren't in agreement.

You guys really need to look into this early death of El Nino, very troubling!

The famed hot springs of Haida Gwaii have gone dry, apparently a casualty of last week's major earthquake. ...
Hot springs are normally found near fault lines, such as the Queen Charlotte Fault, the site of Saturday's 7.7-magnitude earthquake. The springs are created when groundwater, heated by geothermal energy beneath the earth's surface, escapes to the surface through the cracks in the bedrock along a fault.

Just to build on this a tad....given the relationship and dependency of the earth to the sun and so forth, as the solar activity decreases we see cooling on earth. This might indeed affect the el nino pattern. So...this could play a part in why it stopped?? Wonders...if/when we were to see a rise in earth facing solar activity as Shad suggests....the El Nino might restart?? There has to be other factors in play here.....el ninos do not just occur during solar max periods....and I should take more to restart than just solar activity. A missing link.

sheeh...really...I need a special sign in area on the compose screen.

The sun became active...on the back western side. These spots waited until they were facing away, again, but its good to see old sol energize.

Morning, Shad. Can you explain in kindergarten terms what is causing the huge flares on the backside, but when the spot comes around to the front it is benign? I've been watching this on Nin's thread for a long time, but still don't understand. It is almost as if the flares are being controlled to face away from Earth. :-)Please, make it as simple as possible. Thanks much, my friend.
