A long filament in the south east of the solar disc erupted today creating an Earth directed CME, seen first at 13:54 UT by COR2 on STEREO Ahead and at 14:10 UT on STEREO-B with a calculated speed of 533 km/s (no LASCO data yet). An arrival and corresponding geomagnetic storm at Earth can be expected on November 26.

Light leaks inside the EUVI telescope optics can also affect the images (EUVI-B 284)

EUVI uses thin metal films to filter out direct sunlight and pass through only the wavelengths of interest. Small holes can develop in these filters, letting stray light through the system. To get around this problem, two sets of filters are used, one at the front of the telescope, and another at the back, to reduce the effect of light leaks. However, some faint leaks are still visible in the images, as shown below for the 284 Angstrom bandpass on STEREO Behind.

Solar storms are starting to hit, had a massive southern filament liftoff today. It looks like we've got about 13 events coming in( filaments, flare CMEs)over the next 5 days.

Saw it talked about in another thread. Abnormally high tides and rough seas have taken out a large section of beach, palm trees, sidewalks and they had to shut down one of the main roads. Seems like they now have a couple of lanes open to traffic.
