Most smaller departments only had shot guns issued to their patrol officers. As we all know, the bad guys now have auto weapons and vastly out gun the police. That they are getting assault rifles really isn't that surprising and honestly isn't a big deal when you think about it.

And a lot of times at this time of year there is money left over in the budget. This is when you see a lot of new patrol cars and gear being used. PD's have to wait till now to spend anything left over as that money is also there to pay the overtime needed when something BIG does happen.

Funny, because here in Texas we're going to be in the mid-80's across the state.
The last few years we've had whoppers of storms in the Jan.-March.
My grandmother lives around the Red River area (Oklahoma/Texas border) and last year they were iced in TWICE- once in February and then two weeks later in March.

A loud explosion, a rumbling, and a flash of light, is what residents in Warwick and Barrington repeatedly described to officers as calls flooded the police station last night.

One of these days I'll have to tell you all about my son's 11th birthday and our encounter with the police. lol

Oh well, this is as good a time as any. I just returned from California, and I hadn't seen him in six months. I was broke from the trip and didn't have a gift for him, and it was Easter Sunday. So, I decided he could continue his driving lessons, mind you we lived way out in the boonies and seldom if ever passed other vehicles. (His father and I both agreed that he should learn early in case of an emergency) Well, we had driven probably 30 miles or so on open road and came to a very small town (only one stop sign in the whole town). As we were coming to the stop sign about 30 feet before we got to it, my son stopped the car and slid down into the seat. I looked and there was a sheriff at the crossroads stopped at the sign. So I spoke to my son firmly and instructed him to sit up and pull up to the stop sign and then turn to park. He did so and of course the officer pulled through the stop sign turning to pass us, I knew the town and knew the officer would pull through the alley and come after us. So, when my son parked and we changed seats, I waited for the officer. I also knew he could arrest us on the spot and compound my auto.
He pulled out of the alley as I knew he would, but didn't put on his lights, he parked across the street and walked over to us. I explained what was going on and he ask who the car belong to. I told him my husband. He looked around me to my son, and asked, "And, is this your husband?" lol Needless to say, he let us off with a warning. I laugh every time I think of my son whipping down into the seat, and the look on his face.

Hope you all enjoyed reading about it as much as I enjoy remembering it.

I believe a lot of the booms being heard are meteors braking the sound barrier. And of course that would explain the flash of lights. I think we are going to see a lot more of these throughout the winter.... hope they don't get to big...

Found that word that Elenin didn't survive - perihelion. Take about foggy brain today.

What I was searching when I found it was about Comet C/2012 S1 (ISON) that will be a huge event in 2013. Guess you could say I have comets on the brain today. Was just thinking if Elenin caused such problems for earth, wouldn't ISON also? Or is this different? Anyone have a clue?
