In the News: Army teams going to Africa as terror threat grows

WASHINGTON (AP) — A U.S. Army brigade will begin sending small teams into as many as 35 African nations early next year, part of an intensifying Pentagon effort to train countries to battle extremists and give the U.S. a ready and trained force to dispatch to Africa if crises requiring the U.S. military emerge.

The teams will be limited to training and equipping efforts, and will not be permitted to conduct military operations without specific, additional approvals from the secretary of defense.

The sharper focus on Africa by the U.S. comes against a backdrop of widespread insurgent violence across North Africa, and as the African Union and other nations discuss military intervention in northern Mali.

"If they want them for (military) operations, the brigade is our first sourcing solution because they're prepared," said Gen. David Rodriguez, the head of U.S. Army Forces Command. "But that has to go back to the secretary of defense to get an execute order."

"What's really exciting is we get to focus on a different part of the world and maintain our core combat skills," Broadwater said, adding that the soldiers know what to expect. "You see those threats (in Africa) in the news all the time."

The brigade will be carved up into different teams designed to meet the specific needs of each African nation. As the year goes on, the teams will travel from Fort Riley to those nations — all while trying to avoid any appearance of a large U.S. military footprint.

"The challenge we have is to always understand the system in their country," said Rodriguez, who has been nominated to be the next head of Africa Command. "We're not there to show them our system, we're there to make their system work. Here is what their army looks like, and here is what we need to prepare them to do."

Rodriguez said the nearly 100 assignments so far requested by Ham will be carried out with "a very small footprint to get the high payoff."

hmm, I wondered when things would be stepped up in Africa. Is this how it starts? A guidance without (ahum) involvement, until asked for of course.

Wondering why they claim it will happen starting "as early as next year". I know someone who is in the National Guard and part of his unit was sent back in August and I saw where he posted last week another group was being sent right before Christmas. He thinks he will have to go before spring. I asked why Africa and he said support. I wondered then support for what??? I am with you on the "ahum".

The farside as nin noted last week was having a magnetic storm almost across the entire eastern side. It was something I hadn't seen before and we've been waiting to see if it would spread or slide around to earthside. It looks like it hasn't. Our energy drawing anomaly is still present backside as the energy refuses to transfer. This is actually becoming more of a phenom. Its amazing that this has been going on for 7 months and Nasa hasn't even tried to explain it,while most followers and tempolar scientist are all talking about it

When I awoke this morning, my son was here and busy putting things in order. He told me that this area's gas stations are all closed. I'm wondering if that is occurring elsewhere as well. With the holidays recognized on Mondays, a lot of services are closed today, especially gas stations. If folks thought to last minute shop, but forgot to gas up on Sunday. Well, they are gonna find themselves stranded in rural areas without gas for their autos. And, I wonder if those gas stations will be open tomorrow, but I'm thinking since it is Christmas Day that it is unlikely that they will be. So, this recognized Monday holiday time off is good to extend time off work, but bad if it wasn't planned for. Hope everyone got what they needed and is able to spend the holidays with their loved ones.

It looks like(unless I & a few others are misreading the documents in question) that all work has ceased at the sinkhole until the 26th. This is worrysome on a number of levels. Things have clearly been accelerating there, as can be seen by the addition of at least 10 new monitoring stations being put in place here recently. With Hydrogen Sulfide, Methane & other flamable gasses present this storm system & ZERO monitoring going on is a terrible confluence of events.
