Type: Earthquake
Magnitude: 4.8
DateTime: Friday March 22 2013, 11:05:25 UTC
Region: Lake Baykal Region, Russia
Depth: 10 km
Source: CSEM-EMSC Feed

saw this and remembered the location wondering if this was a methane release or volcanic? This lake is sooooo...deep and old The lake itself is an oddity. It is the largest by volume and the deepest (5370 feet at its deepest point), as well as one of the oldest at around 25 million years! Wow! Just a thought.
[link to en.wikipedia.org] lots of info things going on here even Main article: Baikal Deep Underwater Neutrino Telescope [link to www.inr.troitsk.ru]
Since 1993, neutrino research has been conducted at the Baikal Deep Underwater Neutrino Telescope (BDUNT). The Baikal Neutrino Telescope NT-200 is being deployed in Lake Baikal, 3.6 km (2.2 mi) from shore at a depth of 1.1 km (0.68 mi). It consists of 192 optical modules (OMs).[32]

In the “Steig et al – falsified” thread, since we have been discussing geothermal activity along the Antarctic peninsula, I thought I’d pass along these images that show other parts of the planet where geothermal heat seems capable of melting ice and making it all the way to the surface. Lake Baikal is quite deep, over 5000′ feet in places, so this demonstrates that even in deep water, the melting of ice from that geothermal heat is a real possibility.
info that makes you think hmmm.....

Tremors at Bayou Corne salt dome halt work again Friday
BAYOU CORNE — Parish officials halted work Friday morning for the second time in a little more than week around the northern Assumption Parish sinkhole because of increased seismic activity, officials said.

John Boudreaux, parish director of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, said the seismic activity was detected around 7 a.m. Friday under the sinkhole and a nearby Texas Brine Co. LLC cavern that failed and is suspected of causing the sinkhole.

Hey, AK. Thanks, my friend.
Last time the tremors picked up, we had the quake just offshore of Dulac. Getting pretty antsy here what with all the ear hissing, ringing, etc. My little dog has been hiding behind my chair for the past week. She usually never does anything like that. I know she's probably feeling the tremors and hearing things we don't.

I'm not sure I know much now...but I don't think I need to understand much to realize that when you flush a bunch of water and chemicals into the earth.....everything that goes down doesn't automatically come back up. Some of it makes it into the cracks; seeps into the ground water. People don't want to believe that....they need to believe it's safe...so they do. They see their communities dying, schools closing, the poverty...friends and family moving away....and they use it to stay afloat....to buy time. They want their kids to live and grow up in the same community they did...I understand that...but jeez...the price is high!!
I live in a beautiful resort area.....stunning natural landscape...and when the economy started sinking....and people stopped coming...the didn't seem to know what to do. That 4.5EQ at North Pacific Ridge today is a bit unsettling. Its a spreading fault. Last year right around this time we had 7.2 in Chile and a 6.0 at this same spot as today's 4.5. You don't see a whole lot of quakes there.

Hey Moxi We're having a snow day too!

Did you see this?

Tell President Obama to veto the Monsanto Protection Act!

We regret to inform you, but today Congress succeeded in passing Section 735, aka the Monsanto Protection Act, in the Continuing Resolution spending bill. Once again, Monsanto and the biotech industry have used their lobbying power to undermine your basic rights.

We need you to call President Obama and tell him to veto HR 933 and the Monsanto Protection Act. Then contact Congress and tell them you are outraged. With the Senate passage of the Monsanto Protection Act, biotech lobbyists are one step closer to making sure that their new GMO crops can evade any serious scientific or regulatory review.

This dangerous provision, which we're calling the Monsanto Protection Act, strips judges of their constitutional mandate to protect consumer and farmer rights and the environment, while opening up the floodgates for the planting of new untested genetically engineered crops, endangering farmers, citizens and the environment.

We are asking that you take action here and then call President Obama and demand that he veto HR 933. Join us in putting a stop to the Monsanto Protection Act!

State Road A1A was reopened in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea on Friday afternoon after workers conducted emergency repairs to do away with a "cavern" found under the road, officials say.
The cavern, estimated to be 6 feet wide and 6 feet deep, had been caused by a leaking storm drain, according to Steve D’Oliveira, spokesman for the town of Lauderdale-by-the-Sea.

Knowledge is Power
Forewarned is Forearmed: Home Garden Veggies in the Monsanto/Seminis Catalogue
IF YOU ARE THE KIND OF GARDENER who buys vegetable seeds or seedlings (including tomato plants) from a local garden center, as I sometimes do, beware the varieties you select. Otherwise, you could very well be putting money into the hands of the wretched Monsanto Corporation. Forewarned is forearmed, right? Here is the list of Seminis/Monsanto home-garden vegetable varieties, and yes, it even includes zucchini:
I’m going to print out this list, and keep a copy in my wallet. This way I won’t be caught off-guard the next time I decide to impulse-shop at a big-box garden center:
Beans: Aliconte, Brio, Bronco, Cadillac, Ebro, Etna, Eureka, Festina, Gina, Goldmine, Goldenchild, Labrador, Lynx, Magnum, Matador, Spartacus, Storm, Strike, Stringless Blue Lake 7, Tapia, Tema
Broccoli: Coronado Crown, Major, Packman
Cabbage: Atlantis, Golden Acre, Headstart, Platinum Dynasty, Red Dynasty

Note: Not all of the veggie varieties in the above list are Monsanto/Seminis exclusives. Consequently if you spot some of these varieties in the catalog of an heirloom seed-seller, just check with the seller to make sure the seeds were not purchased from Seminis/Monsanto. But if you find these seeds on a rack at a big-box garden center, you have every right to suspect they were purchased from the evil empire.
That’s quite a catalog, huh? No wonder Monsanto paid $1.4 billion in cash to acquire Seminis Seeds. You can see the catalog for yourself on Seminis’s own website.
Don’t be embarrassed if you’ve inadvertently planted some of these varieties in your garden. As you might recall, one summer I innocently planted ‘Early Girl’ tomatoes. Believe me, I won’t be casting that vote again.

Re: F.O.G.
At 6:26pm MDT, huge loud buzz in my ear. Watching the Factor and it was loud!! Daughter came out of her room and asked if I heard it, she said it was super loud. Gotta tell ya, it was the loudest I have ever heard and very high pitched.

Have been keeping a low profile today after the grouchies yesterday, lol!!

PS - major snow storm going on, so can't check for any meteors here tonight!! Shuckes

Just because I am paranoid doesn't mean I am wrong.

Sorry I missed this meteor thing. I was watching the North Carolina game. Is this the End times? Or just half time?
