TAIPEI—A magnitude 6.1 earthquake hit central Taiwan at 10.03 a.m. local time (0203 GMT) Wednesday, the Central Weather Bureau said, adding no casualties had been reported.

The quake's epicenter was near Nantou county in central Taiwan, the bureau said.

The temblors shook buildings in Taipei, with the intensity of a magnitude 2 quake, the bureau said.

Taiwan lies near the junction of two tectonic plates and is regularly hit by earthquakes.

Re: F.O.G.
Melting Ice Means No Dinner for Polar Bears—So They’re Eating Each Other
Every fall, polar bears gather on the edge of the bay, waiting for the ice pack to completely form. Over the winter, they hunt seals and store up fat reserves. In late spring, when the ice begins breaking up, they return to the onshore tundra, where there are no seals, to spend the summertime “melt season.”
This new study, however, found a “trend towards earlier arrival of polar bears on shore and later departure from land, which has been driven by climate-induced declines in the availability of sea ice,” the authors wrote.
“Changes to the timing of migration have resulted in polar bears spending progressively longer periods of time on land without access to sea ice and their marine mammal prey,” said the team of Canadian researchers led by University of Alberta biologist Seth Cherry. Investigators analyzed “sea ice dynamics” and compared them with polar bear migrations, tracked via data collected from satellite-linked collars, between 1991–1997 and 2004–2009.
“The links between increased atmospheric temperatures, sea ice dynamics, and the migratory behavior of an ice-dependent species emphasizes the importance of quantifying and monitoring relationships between migratory wildlife and environmental cues that may be altered by climate change,” they concluded.

Don't know where my post went but here it is again. Something to tug at your heart strings

Man Finds Baby Squirrel in Bag of Mulch

A man in Florida opened a new bag of mulch and, to his surprise, he found a baby squirrel inside. On nope, he is known only by his handle, "Nadtacular," but now the world is starting to know him because of his compassion. The baby squirrel was alive when he found it, and he decided to care for it and document its development.
Nadtacular posted images of the baby squirrel, which he named "Zip," on nope. The first image was from when he discovered Zip; the subsequent images follow Zip's growth from hairless baby to a fun-loving 5-week-old. So far, Zip's pictures have been viewed more than 215,000 times on nope.
People on nope are asking Nadtacular to continue posting pictures so they can watch little Zip grow up. Other people are asking Nadtacular about Zip's journey. One post reads, "I want to know how it ended up in the bag. And how it survived till you found it."
There is no definitive answer to how baby Zip found its way into the bag of mulch, but it's safe to say Zip appears to be enjoying his new home.

Obama passes HR 933 protecting Monsanto and GMO!

2.) The provision's language was apparently written in collusion with Monsanto. Lawmakers and companies working together to craft legislation is by no means a rare occurrence in this day and age. But the fact that Sen. Roy Blunt, Republican of Missouri, actually worked with Monsanto on a provision that in effect allows them to keep selling seeds, which can then go on to be planted, even if it is found to be harmful to consumers, is stunning. It's just another example of corporations bending Congress to their will, and it's one that could have dire risks for public health in America.
