On March 15, 2013, Arctic sea ice extent appears to have reached its annual maximum extent, marking the beginning of the sea ice melt season. This years maximum extent was the sixth lowest in the satellite record. NSIDC will release a detailed analysis of the 2012 to 2013 winter sea ice conditions in early April.

Sungrazing comets have the potential for world wide power disruption(EMP). It will be interesting to see what comet Ison brings this summer. It has to travel through the asteroid belt to get here, meaning it could pull objects along, knock them our direction etc... Its supposed to be brighter than the moon , possibly, and its track is awfull close to some planets. If it gets close enough it could cause massive electromagnetic problems.

Good Afternoon ALL!! It's a beautiful day here in Arkansas. I've been out doing outside chores and looking forward to watching the kiddos play softball this evening. Figured I better enjoy while I can...looks like the next few days will bring some rain, sleet, and colder temps.

I'm watching Japan too....as it was pointed out...Gabe posted it would start there..

..but also it's been the quiet spot on our map for a while. I'm inclined to pay attention to the Aussie in Perth with the Fuke blog. It's a personal interest he's put alot of effort into... seems unlikely he would prank it.

re: oil spill in Mayflower--I have heard that it has entered Lake Conway...and a rumor that it also got into the AR river. I searched today to link the story about the lake...and an initial report of 84000 gallons as the spill...but I cant seem to find.

We also had an incident at the nuke plant
[link to www.ksdk.com]

Hope all has a good day. AKO--I cant seem to remember which part of AK you're in...if you've posted it....but I see there has been some decent shaking going on. Hope things are hanging tight and the dogs are ok.
