Re: F.O.G.
You know, with all the EQ's today, it reminds me of when ELENIN was all the rage. EQ's were hot, the sun was firing off M and X flares constantly. One didn't know where the next big event would be. The forum I was didn't even count EQ's under 6.5 because there were so many every day.

Can't find where I read it, FOG or Solar thread, someone mentioned that ISON was going to start effecting us like Elenin did. If that is true, we should be in for some exciting times during the rest of the year.

Don't get me wrong, I do NOT like to see any one injured or killed but we are all watching for a reason and yes we all seem to get rather excited when it is hopping!
 Quoting: whiteangel

We are energy so its normal to get excited over events that do affect us,and its all meant to happen. Pray wholeheartedly, but expect some to do what they were meant to do and then go to meet their higher energy. Ison could be an energetic monster, so we will wait and see. WA you are turning into a natural leader. You are becoming a true light warrior, bless you and yours! Never fear, we are doing exactly what we are meant to!

What a humbling thing to say to me, it swelled my heart and brought tears to me. You will never know just how much this meant during a month that is both joyous and heart rendering for me. Thank you kind sir, thank you!

Re: F.O.G.
This is so maddening and sad
Tepco Says Fukushima Plant Leaked 120 Tons of Radioactive Water
okyo Electric Power Co. (9501) said thousands of gallons of highly radioactive water has leaked from an underground pool at the crippled Fukushima Dai-Ichi nuclear plant and may have seeped into the soil.
Tepco estimates about 120 tons (32,280 gallons) of radioactive water has escaped, company spokesman Daisuke Hirose said, adding it was uncertain how much contaminated water has soaked into the soil. While he said the utility plans to complete pumping the remaining water to other underground pools by April 9, Japan’s Nuclear Regulation Authority today said “a small quantity” of radioactive water may be leaking from another tank.
The leak is the latest stumble in efforts to stabilize the plant after the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami that caused the worst nuclear crisis in 25 years. Tepco continues to inject water into the damaged reactors to cool them, and the leaked water contains about 710 billion becquerels of radiation, the most since the facility reached a stable state known as cold shutdown in December 2011, Hirose said.
Any leakage is unlikely to have reached the ocean as the underground pool is about 800 meters (0.5 mile) away from the tank, Hirose said, adding that Tepco is investigating the cause of the leakage.
A cooling system for one of the spent fuel pools temporarily stopped on April 5, and the plant lost power on March 18 after a rat caused an electrical short-circuit, the company said.
About 276,000 tons of highly radioactive water is stored in tanks at the Fukushima Dai-Ichi plant, according to Tepco’s latest data. That’s enough to fill about 110 Olympic-sized swimming pools, according to Bloomberg News calculations.

Re: F.O.G.
Here is a link to the LDS Preparedness Manuel, PDF. They have one of the best information sites and have the science to back up what they advise. As part of their church prophecy, they are told to store 1 year of food supplies, though originally it was 7 years. [link to thesurvivalmom.com]

I have learned a lot over time in storing long term (LTS) and yes their sites have really worked. The Mormon 4, wheat/honey-sugar/salt/powdered milk, won't be a great meal but it will keep you alive and is actually the basics you should start with AFTER you have a 3 months supply of regular grocery store foods that you normally eat!

Don't forget water. Without water you will die. Period. Most prepping sites tell you to have a weeks worth of water for you and your family/group. Get that amount and then work up to one month. Save 2-liter soda bottles, juice bottles and ask friends for them if you don't drink much.

Rinse bottles, then add a bit of dish soap and a few drops of bleach, fill about a 1/4 way with water and shake well to clean. I pore this solution into the next bottle using a funnel, letting the bottle I just shook sit for about 15 minutes to allow the bleach/soap to clean further. When I have a bunch of bottles cleaned, I then start rinsing well. Then I fill with water. Those on city water don't really have to add a drop of bleach but I do just for peace of mind considering what may be in the water.

Water should be rotated yearly (though some say every 6 months). Water doesn't go bad, but it does taste flat over time, so pouring water back and forth between two containers will help to add oxygen back into it and improve the taste greatly.

If you have a good water filter, filter your water storage and then you can store up to two years. When you rotate, use it on your garden or plants, after letting it sit for an hour with lids off to burn off any bleach that may still be active. A water filter is your best friend, one that will allow you to take water from anywhere and make it safe to drink.

Here is another link for food storage on the cheap. It is what I actually started with as we have never had a lot of money to spend on preps. You can swap out the corn for wheat and rice. Boring but if you add the spices you can make a lot of stuff. Read the whole blog. Also, I think that $200, will be closer to $300 now considering all hikes in food prices.
[link to givemetheinfo.com]
His basics are just that, very basic but tells you also how to make meals out of what he gives.
In my searches I found the plan below. Simple, relatively inexpensive. You can buy a year worth of food for less than $200

The whole plan is as simple as;
200 lbs of pinto beans
300 lbs of yellow whole kernel corn
35 lbs of liquid shortening.

And that’s it. This will supply almost 2000 calories per day for 365 days. You may notice there’s no freeze dried caviar on the list. :) But if you don’t die of epicurean boredom you will survive until the end of the year.

And it’s a very good diet too. Both traditionally and scientifically. The Native Americans grew beans, corn and squash, They called them The Three Sisters. They thrived on the diet. The squash was a good addition. Scientifically, a beans and corn diet give a complete array of all the amino acids your body needs to live. They call it a complete protein.

Guess I better stop, have made this into a book already!!!

Re: F.O.G.
Here is what I have for disinfecting water as liquid bleach begins to break down in 6 months.

A 1-pound pag of calcium hypochlorite in granular form will treat up to 10,000 gallons of drinking water

Calcium hypochlorite is one of the best chemical disinfectants for water, better than household bleach by far. It destroys a variety of disease causing organisms including bacteria, yeast, fungus, spores, and viruses.

Calcium Hypochlorite is widely available for use as swimming pool chlorine tablets or white powder that is much more stable than chlorine. This is often known as “pool shock”.
How to Disinfect Water Using Calcium Hypochlorite

Using granular calcium hypochlorite to disinfect water is a two step process.

* To make a stock of chlorine solution (do not drink this!) dissolve 1 heaping teaspoon (about one-quarter of an ounce) of high-test (78%) granular calcium hypochlorite for each two gallons (eight liters) of water.
* To disinfect water add one part of the chlorine solution to 100 parts water to be treated.
* Let the mixture sit for at least one-half hour before drinking.

Be sure to obtain the dry granular calcium hypochlorite since once it is made into a liquid solution it will begin to degrade and eventually become useless as a disinfecting agent. This also means you should make your treated drinking water in small batches, for example enough for a few weeks at a time at most.

Another plus for using calcium hypochlorite to disinfect water for emergency use is that a little goes a very long way. A 1-pound pag of calcium hypochlorite in granular form typically costs only a few US dollars and can be obtained in any swimming pool supply section of your hardware store or online. This amount will treat up to 10,000 gallons of drinking water, which is enough for a family of four for some six or seven years at a gallon per day per person!

Calcium hypochlorite will store for a long period of time and remain effective as a chemical drinking water treatment. So get rid of the household bleach and buy a can of Calcium hypochlorite for your disaster emergency water disinfection needs. It lasts far longer and treats far more water than the traditional chlorine bleach water disinfection treatment.
