Rabid Alaska Wolf Prompts Health Warnings
Alaska health and wildlife officials are issuing warnings after a trapper killed a wolf that tested positive for rabies.

The wolf was killed near Chandalar Lakes about 185 miles north of Fairbanks. The carcass was transported to the Matanuska-Susitna Borough and discarded in a forested area.

The incident has state officials concerned because rabies had not been detected in the area south of the Brooks Range..

They also say the carcass, which has been retrieved, could have spread parasites or the disease.

The wolf had closely approached the trapper.

State officials say people in the Mat-Su or near Chandalar Lakes should report animals acting abnormally.

Wildlife veterinarian Dr. Kimberly Beckmen says rabid animals may be fearless in approaching people, may attack inanimate objects or may move abnormally.

OK....???? If the carcass can spread parasites why did it get discarded in a forested area where lots of us live? It doesn't say they buried it just discarded it?

H7N9 is now being reported on FOX news that it is possibly human to human. We on FOG have known this for two days!!

The other thing they mentioned that the CDC stated it shows resistance to some anti-virals.

Then they stated that the reason they are concerned it this:

1918 Spanish Flu
- 50 million dead
- 1 in 50 died

H7N9 Bird Flu
- 1 in 5 die

Or for those who have to google the answer (lol) that is
7 billion divided by 5 = one billion four hundred million

The news anchor then said well at least we have drugs that they didn't have back in 1918. The person reporting from the CDC said, "Well, do we or don't we?? Already H7N5 is showing resistance to the older antivirals like Flumadine. The CDC has gotten two samples of this virus and one was sensitive to the newer antivirals Tamaflu and Relenza but the other one was showing some troubling signs."

Mike Shaw of the CDC labs: "It looks like part of it was trying to become resistant but it wasn't quite there yet which shows us the potential is there and something we need to be alert for."

Fox news: "If this virus were to become easily transmissible and drug resistant to our front line antivirals, that could be a HUGE problem. So far we are not there yet. One troubling development, one case of this has been discovered outside of China, a man in Taiwan, though he had been traveling in China prior to being diagnosed. But here's another troubling aspect, he had NO contact with birds. That's worrisome."

What bothers me about all this, when MSM starts talking about it, it is either nothing, or time to start being scared, it is never in the middle!

WA....my feeling exactly. Keeping my eye on this. We must be prepared as best we can in case this is what they are claiming. I am updating my "flu" kit just in case. Thanks for you recipe, added it to what I already have. Does not hurt to be prepared as best we can. I think that goes for about everything...jeez talk about overload!

Two large explosions on a fuel barge in Mobile, Alabama could be felt from miles away in Spanish Fort and Daphne, Alabama, over 10 miles away across the river, according to local reports.

The blast occurred on a natural gas barge on the east side of Mobile River around 8:30 pm local time. Officials told Fox 10 News that there were no fatalities although some crew memebers did report burn injuries.

Fire and emergency crews rushed to the scene Wednesday night.

Re: F.O.G.
This is from Mobile
They are saying this was caused by a valve being closed and chemical pooled but the test has come back too high in last 3 samples

MAWSS: Chemical compund level high Prichard water
PRIICHARD, Ala. (WALA) - On April 24, officials with the Mobile Area Water & Sewer System told FOX10 News that results from a water sample taken on Main Street in Prichard once again came back with higher than allowable levels of a chemical compound.

We first told you about water quality tests performed quarterly that uncovered higher than allowed levels of the Trihalomethanes group.

“They are considered a disinfectant by-product. They are generated when chlorine is added to the drinking water making it clean and safe to drink,” said Scott Hughes Public Relations ADEM

Officials said annual testing results should not exceed 80 parts-per-billion, but an average of several samples taken resulted in a 90 parts-per-billion level.

MAWSS said because water sample testing must be averaged over the last four quarters a letter will likely go out to customers, since the last three samples taken from the Prichard site show elevated chemical levels.
[link to www.fox10tv.com]

The health effects of trihalomethanes are controversial within the scientific community. Studies with lab animals have shown increased cancers at high doses, but such studies cannot always be extrapolated to humans. Other studies have compared the rates of cancers to levels of TTHM exposure in large numbers of people, and these results have also been contradictory. There have also been contradictory studies of the effects of these substances on human development and reproduction.

The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has concluded that there is enough evidence to establish regulations on TTHM in drinking water. There may be a slight risk of increased colorectal or bladder cancer if one drinks water contaminated with trihalomethanes at a level over 80 parts per billion (ppb) for a lifetime. Some U.S. states and bottled water companies limit levels to as low as 10 ppb. Many other countries also regulate the levels in their water supplies.

Most of the exposure to trihalomethanes comes from consumption, either from drinking water or cooking with it. Swimmers can absorb these compounds through their skin. Some trihalomethane compounds can also become volatile and evaporate into the air when one showers. These can then be inhaled.

Re: F.O.G.
EPA rebukes State Department's approval of Keystone XL pipeline

The future of a controversial oil project is now up in the air after the United States Environmental Protection Agency issued a letter condemning the State Department’s recent environmental impact review of the Keystone XL pipeline.

If approved, supporters of the project say the creation of a 1,700-mile pipeline stretching from Alberta, Canada to the Gulf of Mexico could create thousands of jobs and help alleviate concerns that America might become too oil-dependent on other nations. Environmentalists, however — and now the EPA — fear that the benefits of the Keystone XL pipeline might not outweigh the potentially catastrophic consequences that come with not just the construction of the project but the constant movement of toxic tar sands under the surface of the earth.

Oil giant TransCanada has been asking the White House to sign off on the project since 2008, and the debate has become a topic of contention among the Obama administration. Since the pipeline would cross international borders, the final go-ahead will likely come from the Department of State, which is tasked with deciding if a presidential permit should be issued to TransCanada. This week’s sharply worded critique of that agency’s latest assessment report suggests it won’t be a smooth process, though.
