jeeeze, just make up a number.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1281779

Just making up a number is simple and an easy out. To stand up to this you have to say NO. Otherwise you are just being part of the problem. This is why I refused and walked out.

My local grocers asked for my phone number AFTER I used my store card. I said no. She looked at me puzzled and said no what - sorry I asked for your number. I said yes I understand and no you can't have it. What info you need is on the store card. That was the end of the conversation and no problem.

Why am I stubborn about this stuff? Because it is none of their business. I used a store card, yes that is part of the system, so there was no need to ask for further info. You as the CUSTOMER have the right to walk out without paying. They are giving you a service and DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO INTERROGATE YOU AT THE CHECK OUT STAND! That is what the problem is.

Think about all the different places you shop and how often they ask for a zip code, a telephone number, your address or whatever? They don't need that info at all.

I started being difficult when the school system wanted me to fill out the race of my kids. Choices were, African-American, Hispanic/Latino, Asian, Native American and white. White was the only one not capitalized. I chose Native American.
The lady looked up at me and then at my very pale blonde kids and said, "you aren't Native American."
I told her I and my children and my husband were all born in America and we were NA.
"That is for Indians, not white people."
But we are the lightest shade of brown, not white. Plus white wasn't capitalized so it was a color and not a race, which all the others were. Plus, Indians were not the first people to come to the Americas.
She started to change the form and I told her to stop. That it was a legal document filled out by me and she wasn't allowed to change the data or was it something she did all the time?
"Look, just change it to white and be done with it?" she asked me.
"No I will not." I left the Native American checked and also checked other CELTIC-AMERICAN

If you can't stand up to a corrupt system, you have not right to complain when they lock the concentration camp gate on you.

Aaah thanks for clarifying shads, roger that! Compliment well receivedhf

I find that many -most!- participants here (and at Solar Watch) are very eloquent, helpful, and interesting to follow, making the learning so much easier and pleasant : )

Then there are some who post data in a very factual manner, also highly helpful and appreciatedhf

This atmosphere tells of a well-rounded family.

I agree with your appreciation of WA's qualities, even if I haven't seen that thread and her posting there, the ones I do see on both my favorite threads are awesome -- oops! make that three, with Isis' Amazing Gracehf

Re: F.O.G.
Would like some input on an experience that happened back in the mid 1980's. I've not openly mentioned it before but recently have thought about it a lot, even though at the time, well, we just dropped it, which after reading about it, you will find weird also.

My mom and I had just moved into an apartment outside of Albuquerque. She just started a new job at an IT firm and I was soon to start working. All of our furniture was in storage and we only had our personal belongings. She was sleeping in her bedroom on a blowup mattress and I in the living room on one as well. The room that would be mine was kept closed as a male cat had sprayed the room and it reeked to high heaven. The apt manager would be taking care of it in a few days. Just giving background to set the scene correctly.

This building was a 4-plex, two apts on top, two on the bottom - ours was on top. From where I placed my mattress, I could look into her room through what we called a hall, though it was only a small square area where a stackable washer/dryer were, the bath and a linen closet. We were maybe 15 feet from each other.

On the second night there, I woke up in the middle of the night, it was all dark except for the night coming in through the windows, especially her room as there were no curtains, just cheap blinds that didn't little to block the street nights. I didn't move, just opened my eyes and since I was facing towards my mother's room I could clearly see the little hall area.

There was a man standing there. I started to move in alarm and then a strange peace came over me and I laid back down, just looking at him and of all the crazy things, just went back to sleep.

Though I couldn't see facial features well, he appeared in his late to early 40's, he was dressed in what I called cowboy clothes. Not the drug store type, rather a working cowboy, wearing a felt stetson that had only a slight turn up on the edges. Dark clothing but I don't remember much else there.

The next morning when I got up, Mom was in the kitchen and I opened my mouth to tell her about it and it was gone. Couldn't remember what I was going to say. Poof.

The next night it happened again. Opened my eyes, saw him standing there but I didn't move and mostly closed my eyes so I could watch him. He only stood there looking from me to Mom and then straight ahead. I didn't sense evil, more like he was a guardian, a protector.

Again, the next morning I tried to tell Mom about it and again, the thought was gone. You know those moments when you go to tell someone something and the thought just evaporates and for the life of you, you can't remember what you were going to say? That was how this was.

It was three weeks before my brother and a group of family friends were able to help us get all our furniture and belongings out of storage. The stinky room was still reeking to high heaven and it had been cleaned 4 times. They were going to send in a 5th cleaner that specialized in stubborn odors. I have now moved from the floor to the sofa to sleep on, something that was wonderful.

Now the nightly visitor had moved more into the living room. My point of view could no longer see my Mom. For him to see us both, he had to step forward a few steps. I could see him better yet still couldn't describe this man if I had to. White, late 30's to early 40's and rugged features is the best I can tell you. Maybe it was the hat that kept me from seeing him well. Everyone morning, I tried to tell my mother about this strange thing that kept happening over and over.

The new carpet cleaner man came. I was talking to him while he was opening a rather small bottle. He said they used this to clean areas after someone had died and had been left there for a long time. He poured it into a few spots that refused to come up even after all the cleanings that had been done and VIOLA - the odor was gone. Before, if you hit those spots with water the whole apartment would smell horrendous! It was enough to make you want to puke. The cleaner told me I didn't even need to wait to set up my bedroom, the odor wouldn't come back. Well I really didn't believe him and waited a few nights. He had been right, the odor was completely gone. I was finally able to have my own bed back.

Bet you guessed what happened. After the final carpet man left and the odor was gone, so was the nightly visitor. I was on the sofa 2-3 nights after but never saw him again. The morning after the odor was gone I was finally able to mention the man to my mother. Her eyes got huge and yes, she had been seeing him as well. She described him the same as I did, only she said he was there to protect me and she had seen him stand almost over me on several occasions - that she watched him a couple of times until the sun came up. She too did not feel any evil from him, she thought he was an angel. We talked about why we hadn't been able to say anything to each other about it, she felt it was because he was sent from God to watch over us and since he was holy we weren't allowed to. Once he left it was okay to talk about.

Over time, we might have mentioned it only a dozen times in 20+ years. To me, that too is weird. I have only shared this experience with two friends only, not even my husband - yet I feel compelled to share it here, to ask for input/insight.

Maybe I have been afraid to share this in fear that people would think I was crazy and it was nothing more than a dream, I don't know why. Any ideas?

One of the wonderfull mysteries we sometimes experience. I believe your mother and you are strong empaths and your ability to sense this soul may have been enough to help him realize he needed to move on. He may have been trying to figure you gals out also. Great experience!

Not weird at all in my book.

Here is what I am seeing...

He died either of a gun shot wound (self inflicted) and/or a broken heart. He was found by the landlord due to the smell and unpaid rent, there was a police officer present.

He was stuck in-between worlds as he had a second thought prior to his death. I am seeing he had or wanted a family, stronger feeling that he had a wife and daughter that left him, I am seeing alcohol bottles.

When you and mom moved in, it helped him to move to the other side. His watching over you was also longing for what may have been and him working out the pain in the in between world before moving on.

The fact that you could both see him and yet not speak of him allowed him to feel that he did matter and was able to move to the other side. (this paragraph is somewhat scrambled) I can see what I am trying to say, just not getting it quite right. Oh wait.. you were not afraid of him, that is what he felt from you. Others were afraid of him.

You and mom helped this man move to the other side that is why it took so long for the smell to leave. He was working out his decision and with your help was able to move on.

Awesome WH!!

Hope this makes sense. lol

One last thing before I head out. I have been meaning to post this in memory of the old possum Mr. George Jones, and keep forgetting. I spent many nights listening to him on old records and the grand ole opry with my grandparents on their farm. Jamie Johnson is a good one for this tribute, has an old school country feel to him!

Wow Gomez, you just kind of freaked me out. Lol. I have experienced the same as you in regards to feeling the opposite than the posters here on any given day. I know we are both from Alabama so not sure what that means. Today has been a horrible day physically for me. It started out good, and then around 2:30ish CST my whole body went crazy, and I had the worst ear/sinus/neck pain ever, just out of the blue. I have been hurting ever since and can't figure out why. I have also been over emotional and am having trouble controlling it. This is not a common occurrence for me so not handling it with grace. Lol. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day.

Tiny Baby Dinosaur Discovered in China

Scientists have discovered the fossilized skeleton of a baby dinosaur representing a new species of coelurosaur, a group of theropods that includes ancient beasts like T. rex.
With a skull that's barely taller than the diameter of a quarter, the remains are thought to have belonged to a dinosaur that was less than a year old when it died, and researchers think it measured just 3 feet (1 meter) long and weighed only 3 lbs. (1.3 kilogram).
But the baby may have grown into a bruiser in adulthood, possibly comparable to the 16-foot-long (5 meters) Monolophosaurus, a theropod dinosaur with a long bony crest on its head, or the 25-foot-long (7.6 m) Sinraptor, which means "Chinese plunderer." What's more, it was likely a meat-eater that stalked lizards and relatives of today's mammals and crocodilians, researchers say

How the Fermi Spacecraft Almost Got Taken Out by a Relic of the Cold War
As a space telescope scientist or satellite operator, the last thing you want to hear is that your expensive and possibly one-of-a kind — maybe irreplaceable — spacecraft is in danger of colliding with a piece of space junk. On March 29, 2012, scientists from the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope were notified that their spacecraft was at risk from a collision. And the object heading towards the Fermi spacecraft at a relative speed of 44,000 km/h (27,000 mph) wasn’t just a fleck of paint or tiny bolt.

A Supercell Thunderstorm Cloud Over Montana
Image Credit & Copyright: Sean R. Heavey
Explanation: Is that a spaceship or a cloud? Although it may seem like an alien mothership, it's actually a impressive thunderstorm cloud called a supercell. Such colossal storm systems center on mesocyclones -- rotating updrafts that can span several kilometers and deliver torrential rain and high winds including tornadoes. Jagged sculptured clouds adorn the supercell's edge, while wind swept dust and rain dominate the center. A tree waits patiently in the foreground. The above supercell cloud was photographed in July west of Glasgow, Montana, USA, caused minor damage, and lasted several hours before moving on.

Meteor Shower from Halley's Comet Peaks This Weekend
Early Sunday (May 5), just before dawn, we'll have an opportunity to see some of the remnants of the most famous of comets briefly light up the early morning sky.

The famed Halley's Comet made its last pass through the inner solar system in 1986 and is not due back until the summer of 2061. But each time Halley sweeps around the sun, it leaves behind a dusty trail — call it "cosmic litter" — that is responsible for two meteor showers on Earth each year. The first of those "shooting stars" displays, the Eta Aquarid meteor shower, will peak on Sunday.

“One of the saddest lessons of history is this: If we’ve been bamboozled long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle. We’re no longer interested in finding out the truth. The bamboozle has captured us. It’s simply too painful to acknowledge, even to ourselves, that we’ve been taken. Once you give a charlatan power over you, you almost never get it back.” – Carl Sagan

Explosions shake Cleveland volcano

© Alaska Volcano Observatory
Cleveland Volcano is erupting once again. Three small explosions shook the volcano Saturday morning, and a low-level eruption is ongoing.

John Power is a seismologist with the Alaska Volcano Observatory. He writes in an email that the explosions were "similar in size to what we have seen over the past several years," although he notes that it is unusual to have three in a row.

Power says satellite imagery and a webcam in the nearby village of Nikolski show that the volcano is continuing to emit small amounts of gas, ash and steam, with plumes rising to 15,000 feet. There's no real-time monitoring network on the volcano.

Cleveland lies on a major international flight path, and in light of the explosions the Observatory has raised the aviation alert level from yellow to orange. They warn that there is the possibility of sudden explosions reaching above 20,000 feet, but so far there have been no reported disturbances to air travel.

Cleveland is one of the most active volcanoes in the Aleutians, erupting roughly two dozen times in 2012. It's last major eruptive period was in 2001, when the volcano sent ash clouds up to 39,000 feet.

Van Meter remembers 1903 visit from winged monster

© Special to the Register
A sketch, by Kevin Lee Nelson, based on century-old descriptions of the Van Meter Visitor.
Imagine what a smartphone in 1903 Van Meter could have accomplished.

Instead of shouldering shotguns and blasting away at an eight-foot winged creature with a forehead horn that cast a beam of light, panicked citizens could have quickly posted a YouTube video. Case closed. Monster confirmed.

Interesting....
