Reykjanes volcanic system
The Reykjanes volcanic system at the SW tip of the Reykjanes Peninsula, where the Mid Atlantic Ridge rises above sea level, comprises a broad area of postglacial basaltic crater rows and small shield volcanoes. The Reykjanes volcanic system is the westernmost of a series of four closely-spaced en-echelon fissure systems that extend diagonally across the Reykjanes Peninsula. Most of the volcanic system is covered by Holocene lavas and eruptions have occurred in historical time during the 13th century at several locations on the NE-SW-trending fissure system.

Reykjanes Peninsula is the onshore continuation of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. The rift valley that lies at the crest of the ridge extends in a northeast direction along the peninsula, from Reykjanes, in the southwest, to Vogar and the airport road, in the northeast. Here the rift ends. Another rift starts about 10 km to the east and is parallel to the first. This one passes by Reykjavik on its eastern edge. This stepping pattern, called en echelon by geologists, repeats twice more. The fourth rift is quite long and eventually passes through Thingvellir to the northeast. The en echelon rifts are caused by the plate boundary, which runs along the peninsula, being not quite perpendicular to the spreading direction in this area. Energetically, it is easier for the crust to break in tension, rather than shear, so it does so whenever possible. With continued spreading, the offset ends of the rifts will eventually become connected by transform faults. A transform fault may be forming further to the east near Selfoss, where an east-west belt of earthquakes are causing some concern.

The rocks seen along the Keflavik-Reykjavik road are basalt lava flows, all younger than 700,000 years old. These rocks are somewhat similar to those found in Hawaii. Near the village of Vogar lie some of the youngest rocks in the area. Little or no soil or vegetation cover them. Geothermal wells have been drilled into the underlying hot rock and steam is extracted to heat the Icelanders' homes.

Recorded this sky noise before noon on March 16th 2013! I always thought that these videos were a crock until now. Just got home from the bank and heard this loud sound. I scrambled to get my cellphone camera going. Fortunately, there was a second pulse and I caught it. I do have a really bad headache, not sure if it's related or not. Anyways, is there anyone else in the Clearfield, Utah area that heard this? Did you get any video? PLEASE MESSAGE ME IF YOU DID!

A newly formed hole in the ground, causing controversy in the city of Springtown.

Karee Barrett's home sits at the resurgence of Big Spring, which is where the town gets its name.

"When we first saw the spring we were just thrilled with it," Barrett says. "This is a beautiful piece of property."

But on the morning of March 2, Barrett found a new feature in the landscape, nearly stumbling into a sinkhole, nine feet deep.

I lurk on here and think you all are wonderful. I live in St Louis, MO area...haven't felt or heard anything but my ears have been ringing and popping quite a bit these past weeks, my dog has been much more anxious than usual as well....I have been watching the quakes like a hawk for years...

Very interesting times indeed, I noticed those quakes in Missouri as well as Oklahoma and almost posted those but another poster beat me to it.

The Extinction Protocol has some good articles posted about mysterious tremors in NJ as well as booms Illinois...

Massive headache, severe pressure fluctuations and the ears are ballistic. I'm coming back from Fulton Mo.,which is mid lower part of the state. I swear it feels like something could pop anytime.

Hi everyone! Just reading and catching up. I thought you might find this little article from UT interesting. There is a sentence that is bolded that you all will REALLY like! Academic proof of what we all believe...fracking is/can cause eq's in places with no know fault line.

BTW, our new granddaughter finally decided to come out and play on Tuesday! Everyone is well. Gram could use a couple of days worth of nap, though!LOL
